Full Job Description Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Medical Billing Lead to join our growing team. The Medical Billing Lead will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing our medical billing operations, ensuring accurate and timely claim submissions, maximizing reimbursement, and providing leadership and guidance to our billing specialists. This role requires a strong understanding of medical billing regulations, coding practices, and a commitment to maintaining a high level of accuracy and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership & Mentorship:
Supervise, train, and mentor a team of medical billing specialists. Provide guidance and support to team members on complex billing issues, claim denials, and coding questions. Monitor team performance and productivity, ensuring departmental goals are met. Foster a collaborative and positive team environment.
Billing Operations & Accuracy:
Oversee the entire medical billing cycle, including charge capture, claim submission, payment posting, and accounts receivable follow-up. Review and audit billing documents and claims for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with federal, state, and payer regulations (e.g., HIPAA, Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance). Identify and resolve complex billing discrepancies, rejections, and denials. Work closely with healthcare providers and other departments to obtain necessary documentation and resolve billing-related inquiries.
Process Improvement & Compliance:
Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance billing efficiency, reduce errors, and optimize revenue. Stay up-to-date with current coding changes (CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS), billing regulations, and payer requirements. Ensure all billing activities are conducted in a manner consistent with ethical standards and company policies. Prepare and analyze accounts receivable reports, identifying trends and areas for improvement.
Patient and Payer Relations:
Handle escalated patient billing inquiries and complaints with professionalism and empathy. Communicate effectively with insurance companies to resolve claim issues and expedite payments.
Qualifications:
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent required. Medical Billing and Coding certification required.
Experience:
Minimum of [3-5+] years of progressive experience in medical billing, with at least [1-2+] years in a lead or supervisory role. Proven experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical billing software. Strong understanding of various insurance payers (Medicare, Medicaid, commercial, etc.).
Skills:
In-depth knowledge of medical coding (CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS) and billing regulations. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen eye for detail. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal. Ability to lead, motivate, and train a team effectively. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook). Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Eclinical Experience in a cardiology billing environment.
