Full Job Description Position Summary :
The Clinical Director is responsible for the overall clinical leadership, direction, and operational oversight of the Behavioral Health Crisis Center (BHCC), ensuring high-quality, client-centered, and recovery-oriented care. This role works in close partnership with agency leadership to ensure seamless service delivery and effective interdisciplinary collaboration across programs. The Clinical Director plays a pivotal role in fostering a culture of clinical excellence, accountability, and mutual respect, emphasizing strong collaboration with both medical and behavioral health staff to ensure an integrated, team-based approach to care.
Job Responsibilities and Performance Standards:
Clinical & Operational Oversight Provide in-person day-to-day coverage to support the BHCC leadership team and clinical staff across the: 30-bed Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) 8-bed Temporary Observation Unit 24/7 Crisis Walk-In Center Assist with managing and directing crisis situations in real time to ensure the safety and well-being of clients and staff. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements including DBHDD, SAMHSA, CARF, ASO, DATEP/HFR, and internal Advantage policies. Establish, maintain, and evaluate clinical programming to ensure alignment with evidence-based practices and regulatory standards. Collaboration & Interdisciplinary Team Building Work closely with medical staff and clinical personnel to build strong working relationships, promote a positive and respectful work environment, and support a culture of mutual accountability and collaboration. Partner with BHCC leadership to address real-time challenges and implement clinical and operational solutions that improve patient outcomes. Facilitate regular interdisciplinary treatment team meetings and clinical huddles to support effective coordination of care. Communicate with contracted companies to ensure unit needs are consistently identified and met. Collaborate with agency leadership and community partners to support coordinated transitions between BHCC and outpatient or community-based services. Staff Supervision, Development & Accountability Provide direct supervision and clinical guidance to BHCC leadership, clinical supervisors, and clinical care coordinators. Promote professional growth through coaching, performance evaluations, ongoing training, and mentorship. Set clear expectations, hold staff accountable to job performance standards, and ensure timely documentation of staff performance, coaching, and disciplinary actions when necessary. Oversee staff scheduling, on-call rotations, and ensure sufficient clinical and medical coverage at all times. Assess the competency of staff on a day-to-day basis to ensure that adequate, safe, and effective care is consistently provided. Ensure daily clinical activities are well-coordinated, therapeutically effective, and adjusted as needed based on client needs and staffing capacity. Quality Assurance & Compliance Develop and implement clinical documentation auditing tools to monitor service quality and ensure accurate, timely, and compliant recordkeeping. Lead quality improvement initiatives and corrective action planning in response to internal and external audit findings. Monitor program outcomes, key performance indicators, and client satisfaction data to guide service enhancements. Collaborate with compliance, care management, and quality departments to ensure clinical fidelity and operational effectiveness. Program & Strategic Development Contribute to the development of short- and long-term goals for the BHCC, aligned with agency-wide strategic objectives. Support financial oversight by working with the Service Line Director to monitor budgets, billing practices, and reimbursement models—particularly for the Temporary Observation Unit and 24/7 Walk-In Services. Identify and pursue opportunities to improve care delivery models and optimize resource utilization across the BHCC. Community Relations & Partnerships Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with external referral sources, hospitals, law enforcement, and other community stakeholders. Represent the BHCC in community and inter-agency meetings as needed to promote service coordination and partnership development.
Minimum Qualifications :
Doctorate in a behavioral health-related field (e.g., psychology, counseling, social work) from an accredited institution and a minimum of four (4) years of management or supervisory experience in healthcare; OR Master’s degree in a behavioral health-related field from an accredited institution and a minimum of five (5) years of relevant management or supervisory experience in healthcare.
Full independent licensure required:
Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or Licensed Psychologist.
