Vascular Access Team Manager (Comprehensive Services) Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) with active state licensure required.
- Minimum of 3 years vascular access/PICC line experience; leadership experience preferred.
- Certified Registered Nurse in Vascular Access (CRNI) or Vascular Access Board Certification (VA-BC) preferred.
- Proficient in ultrasound-guided insertion techniques and clinical documentation systems (e.g., Epic, etc.).
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
Position Summary:
The Vascular Access Team Manager is a clinical and operational leader responsible for overseeing the daily functions of a vascular access (PICC) team. This role ensures high-quality patient care, effective team management, schedule coordination, and compliance with clinical and regulatory standards. The manager plays a key role in staff development, performance management, interdepartmental collaboration, and promoting best practices in vascular access services. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Team Management
- Supervise and support a team of vascular access nurses and clinical staff.
- Provide day-to-day guidance, mentorship, and leadership to ensure professional performance and high standards of care.
- Conduct regular team meetings, huddles, and participate in interdisciplinary leadership meetings.
- Lead annual performance reviews, ongoing evaluations, and address performance concerns with coaching or corrective action as needed.
- Oversee staff onboarding, orientation, and maintain up-to-date competencies for all team members. Clinical Oversight
- Maintain personal clinical practice as needed, including insertion of advanced procedure lines and other vascular access procedures.
- Ensure all team members adhere to current evidence-based practices and organizational policies.
- Monitor documentation accuracy, infection control compliance, and patient outcomes related to line insertions.
- Stay current on vascular access best practices and guide the team in adopting updates. Scheduling & Operational Coordination
- Create and manage team schedules, ensuring 24/7 or on-call coverage as applicable.
- Coordinate coverage for absences, call-outs, or expanded service needs.
- Communicate schedule changes and assignments clearly and timely manner with the team and relevant departments. Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Monitor performance metrics such as first-attempt success rate, complication rates, and documentation compliance.
- Track and maintain records for competencies, licensure, certifications (e.g., BLS), and continuing education.
- Collaborate with infection prevention and compliance teams to ensure program integrity.
- Assist with audits, chart reviews, and ensure readiness for accreditation or inspections. Communication & Collaboration
- Serve as the liaison between the vascular access team and nursing leadership, physicians, and hospital administration.
- Address team or clinical issues promptly and professionally.
- Support coordination with other departments to streamline vascular access requests and ensure patient care efficiency.
