Oral Health Sealant Coordinator Southeast Louisiana AHEC Baton Rouge, LA 70802

Position Type:

Baton Rouge, LA This position is located in the Bureau of Chronic Disease Prevention and Healthcare Access (BCDPHA). The BCDPHA is responsible for improving the health of Louisianans by preventing and/or controlling chronic disease and relevant risk factors by promoting policy, systems and environmental changes, as well as healthy behaviors and education, utilizing evidence-based interventions and leveraging resources through collaborative public and private partnerships to maximize health outcomes for our residents. This position is also responsible for effective management of work plan deliverables and funds received through federal grants from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention related to addressing oral health promotion and sealant initiative. This position will coordinate school outreach activities including dental sealant/fluoride varnish programs, and oral health education initiatives in early childhood in school-based/linked settings; coordinate tasks to support the state action plan via the Louisiana Oral Health Coalition; coordinate the Child Basic Screening Survey; support other grant projects as needed; and coordinate communication activities for social media outlets. Strategic planning and partnership development, the initiation and execution of contracts, and management of communication processes are key components for this position. 40% Provide education and promotion of the School Sealant Program and provides support to the Oral Health Coalition that can be incorporated into the Bureau’s program areas; coordinate program alignment to educate and improve oral hygiene and sealant promotion throughout Louisiana; ensure activities align with CDC best practices and the overall mission of Well-Ahead Louisiana and the Office of Public Health.

  • Establish and maintain partnerships with traditional and non-traditional organizations from both public and private sectors to ensure engagement with partners possessing lived experiences to support oral health and dental sealant activities.
  • Ensure sufficient and appropriate resources and educational material are available for oral health and sealant program for both internal and external team members and partners.
  • Work directly with contractors to ensure timely achievement of deliverables and associated payment as necessary.
  • Continually seek opportunities to maximize efficiency and effectiveness through increased collaboration. 30% Schools (School-based/School-Linked/Early Childhood)
  • Coordinate School Sealant Programs (LA Seals Smiles School-Based/linked Dental Sealant Program) and fluoride varnish programs as determined
  • Build partnerships to promote oral health programs in school and community settings
  • Maintain tool-kit, forms and materials and other handouts for school sealant clinics
  • Provide necessary infection control procedures and training to school sealant partners
  • Work with epidemiologist to manage data tracking and reporting
  • Work with Association of State and Territorial Dental Directors (ASTDD) -Early Childhood Education (ECE) Hygienist Representative to maximize efforts
  • Communicate regularly with the Well-Ahead Coordinator on Child Care Benchmark and provide appropriate resources as necessary
  • Collaborate with the Healthy Communities School-Lead on ECE opportunities
  • Provide contract monitoring support for funded school sealant programs
  • Develop and monitor contracts as necessary 15% Grant Management and Other Ongoing Programmatic Support
  • Participate in regular communication with CDC and other funders (as applicable) regarding grant deliverables and reports.
  • Ensure grant reporting requirements are successfully submitted as per the grant NOA and funder.
  • Monitor performance measures for oral health grant activities.

Collaborate with BCDPHA staff, contractors and partners to draft grant reports and ensure appropriate data surveillance. Oral Health Coalition § Assist program manager with administrative support to the Oral Health Coalition as needed o Work with the program manager and Coalition’s Executive Officers to coordinate efforts o Develop necessary meeting documents and materials, produce assessment documents (as needed) and maintain archive documents o Participate in community outreach activities o Assist with the annual summit preparation and state action planning initiatives Communications § Assist with coordination and development of resources and information for oral health success stories, fact sheets to be disseminated § Assist with maintaining content information and resources for the oral health program pages § Complete monthly/quarterly social media tasks for Healthy Smiles 10% Travel

  • In and out of state travel as necessary
  • Travel to meetings, conferences for the purpose of fulfilling responsibilities of this position 5% Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; or an associate degree in dental hygiene
  • Ability to work independently and as a team to meet grant deliverables and deadlines
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Good written and communication skills
  • Some understanding of oral health prevention practices is desirable
  • Previous experience working with schools and communities
  • Some statewide and out of state travel is required
