Description

JOB SUMMARY AND SCOPE

The primary functionality of this position is to effectively and efficiently schedule all patients for all outpatient services in the hospital with the exception of surgeries, infusion and rehabilitation therapy in a courteous, professional manner. Patient education will be performed by the Outpatient Scheduling Coordinator for test preparation.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Responsible for all outpatient scheduling of Imaging, Cardio Pulmonary, Nuclear Medicine, and Dietary departments.
Responsible for all aspects of outpatient scheduling:
Answer all incoming phone calls and return messages when applicable
Maintain a current working knowledge of outpatient coverage issues
Prescreen scheduled outpatient services for third party coverage including assessment of medical necessity when applicable
Obtain insurance coverage and pre-certification numbers when applicable
Assist physician office staff in understanding third party coverage issues
Communicate with patients, through the office staff or directly, regarding instructions/education specific to the service scheduled
Recognize when Advanced Beneficiary Notices are needed and notify registration staff for completion
Ensure completion of all physician orders
Supply registration with daily orders Scheduling inpatients for services when necessary
Maintenance of supplies necessary to perform job duties
Adhere to departmental dress code
Seeks out needed information, staying informed and involved by attending meetings, reading memos, policies, meeting minutes, newsletters, email and other appropriate information in a timely manner.
Reliable attendance and punctuality, including observing appropriate break times and extending a scheduled shift when necessary to meet patient demands
Performs duties in a safe manner, in compliance with all safety policies and procedures
Complies with the Code of Conduct and all appropriate policies and procedures

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

High School Diploma or GED with on the job training
Experience with various computer systems and typing
Knowledgeable in medical terminology
Knowledgeable in various health insurance plans
Knowledgeable in daily operations of a business office and general office machines
Ability to work independently as well as a team setting, performing under pressure, and with periods of interruption
Excellent communication and organizational skills

Participates in the departmental and hospital-wide Quality Improvement activities as directed by the manager.
