Patient Care Coordinator/Medical Assistant Webster Family Physicians, P.C. 7979 Big Bend Boulevard, Webster Groves, MO 63119 Patient Care Coordinator/Medical Assistant Job description Medical Assistant with an interest in holistic medicine needed for busy family practice. Responsible for performing both clinical and clerical/administrative duties. Displays maturity, flexibility, and effective organization and communication skills in dealing with other people. Maintains a pleasant, efficient, and well-organized working environment. Principal Accountabilities Performs the following clerical/administrative job duties. ▪ Check-in/registration (Greets patients and visitors, updates demographic and insurance information, runs eligibility checks, verifies referrals/pre-certs, collects and processes payments on accounts, distributes patient forms and scans updated forms into Athena. Answers phones and processes electronic messages and faxes from patients, physicians, and facilities. Responds back to callers, portal messages, and faxes per provider instructions and protocols. Schedules appointments. ▪ Check-out (Schedules follow-up appointments, enters orders for tests, procedures, and medications. Schedules outpatient tests and procedures, obtains referrals and precertifications, as required. Performs the following clinical job duties. ▪ Rooms patients. Obtains and documents patient vital signs and chief complaint. ▪ Creates and enters orders for referrals, diagnostic testing, medications, and vaccinations. ▪ Performs point of care testing and documents results. Prepares and labels specimens, creates orders and associated requisitions, and forwards specimens to the appropriate labs. ▪ Sets up and assists with minor procedures. Performs blood draws, ear lavages, albuterol treatments, EKGs, and administer injections. ▪ Reviews test results with patients, and provides patient education. ▪ Approves medication refills requests per protocols, and submits electronic prescriptions to pharmacies. ▪ Orders medical supplies for the practice, and keeps each exam/procedure room stocked with adequate quantities of medical supplies. Disposes of biohazard waste per OSHA standards Education High school diploma required. License
- Certification
- Registration (Text Only) RMA, CMA, or comparable certification preferred. Experience Experience in a medical office or hospital department, or graduate of a medical assistant or medical administrative training program preferred. Established clinical skills and expertise in vital sign accuracy, EKGs, medication administration, and point
- of-care testing strongly preferred.
Basic insurance knowledge and strong EMR/documentation skills preferred. Good verbal skills required.
