Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit The William and Ida Friday Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is dedicated to lifelong learning, community engagement, and intellectual enrichment. It houses the Friday Conference Center, a leading venue for academic, professional, and community events; Community and Continuing Education Programs (including BRIDGES, Paralegal, Friday Center Lecture Series, Celebration of Black History, and the annual MLK Banquet); and serves as the administrative home for the Retired Faculty and Professionals Association (RFPA). Through its services, the Friday Center provides opportunities for learning, collaboration, and engagement to meet the needs of diverse audiences. Position Summary The Facility Set-Up Coordinator is primarily responsible for ensuring that the Friday Center is physically prepared and in working order to support its programs, events, and daily operations. This position manages the staging, set-up, and breakdown of conference rooms and public spaces to meet event specifications. Working in coordination with the Conference Center teams, this role ensures that all meeting spaces are physically arranged and equipped for a wide range of events from small seminars to large, multi-day conferences and that room configurations are completed accurately, efficiently, and on schedule. In addition to facility staging and event support, the Set-Up Coordinator provides general facility maintenance and upkeep throughout the 100,000-square-foot building, including meeting rooms, offices, a commercial kitchen, a loading dock, and exterior areas. Responsibilities include general maintenance tasks such as painting and drywall repair; basic repairs of electrical switches, outlets, and lighting fixtures; and minor plumbing work involving toilets, urinals, faucets, and drain lines. The coordinator also conducts routine building checks, identifies maintenance needs, and assists with day-to-day operational support to ensure the facility remains safe, functional, and responsive to the needs of guests and staff. The Facility Set-Up Coordinator reports to the manager of facility operations and maintenance at the Friday Center and works in conjunction with the broader Friday Center facilities team to ensure seamless daily operations and support for events. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
