patient throughput. Facilitates all areas of Surgical Services Department. Collaborates with the medical staff and other members of the health care team to provide quality patient care. Performs all activities in accordance with approved policies and guidelines. Supervises and delegates appropriate duties to ancillary personnel.

Essential Functions:

1. Primarily focused on surgery throughput. Facilitates all areas of Surgical Services. High quality patient care. Efficient patient flow in and out of the department, and attainment of patient safety and quality of care.
2. Serves as the team lead to ensure efficient operation of the department.
3. Serves as a resource and mentor for staff in the clinical area.
4. Assumes responsibility for decisions and actions in the lead clinical role
5. Assures departmental checks are computed as assigned.
6. Leads staff briefs/debriefs on a shift basis. Holds staff huddles as required/needed.
7. Acts as a liaison between OP and other hospital departments
8. Communicates effectively with staff, peers, internal and external customers
9. Adjusts staffing to volumes
10. Utilizes quality improvement as basis to improve departmental processes.
11. Assists with thorough and complete orientation of all incoming personnel, utilizing the department orientation plan and ensuring all aspects of the orientation process are completed within a timely manner.
12. Maintains readiness for regulatory surveys.
13. Demonstrates clinical competence to practice within the departments scope of service.
14. Communicates effectively with leadership, staff, peers, and physicians
15. Completes additional responsibilities as assigned by Dept Director. EX. Staff schedule, audits, supply ordering.
16. Other duties as assigned.
17. Ensures charges are verified and accurate. Minimum Education
Associate’s Degree in Nursing required
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred
Required Skills
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Certifications:

Basic Life Support (BLS)
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) within 3 months of hire
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 3 months of hire
Handle with care within 3 months of hire

Licenses:

Current RN license to practice in NC (NC licensure or multi-state (compact) license).
