Job Description
Summary Reporting to the CHMG Patient Refill Center Pharmacist Lead, will manage medication renewal requests and prior authorizations per CHMG policy and protocol as well other duties as assigned. This position will involve accessing and reviewing patient charts, navigating practice-specific protocols, authorizing medication renewals appropriately, and submitting prior authorization requests that are complete and accurate. This is an administrative position and does not involve direct patient contact. In addition, may be involved in other areas of Central Service support such as inputting of medical records/chart pre-loading as well as assisting in other clerical, environmental and organizational needs. Education Successful completion of the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board CPhT Exam, OR accredited Medical Assistant program preferred. Alternately, completion of a Licensed Nursing Assistant program.• Certification, Registration & Licensure Any of the following credentials meet requirements for this position: Certified Pharmacy Technician, CPhT Registered Medical Assistant, RMA Certified Medical Assistant, CMA •Any candidates with Licensed Nursing Assistant, LNA credentials may be hired into a Medical Assistant position with the expectation that the candidate must obtain certification or registration within the first year of employment. Experience With completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or Pharmacy Technician Certification Board CPhT Exam, no experience is required. Licensed Nursing Assistant must have a minimum of one year of healthcare experience. Responsibilities Receive medication renewal requests via eRx, phone, voice mail, fax, etc. and authorizes refills adhering to CHMG Medication Renewal Policy and Protocol. Initiates and completes medication prior authorizations. Covermymeds.com experience a plus. Follows telephone screening guidelines for answering the phone; identifies patient’s concern and directs calls if needed. Makes outgoing calls relating to medication renewals and prior authorizations. Schedules patient appointments and places future appointment orders as needed, demonstrating understanding of scheduling guidelines and patient needs. Uses software (EMR, e-mail, fax queues, registries, portal, etc.) following established protocols for documentation and actions.
