GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

The Clinical Director provides leadership and direction to the Clinical Department while overseeing the clinical aspects of the US Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) including maintaining the Guidelines and Evaluation Criteria (GEC), clinical documents used by facilities to implement the GEC, clarifying issues, and responding to questions pertaining to the GEC with current evidence. Responsible for evolving the 4-D Pathway, Re-Designation Year 1 and Annual Quality Improvement phases. The Clinical Director works closely and coordinates activities with the Accreditation Director. The Chief Operating Officer and Chief Executive Officers share supervision of this role.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Supervises, advises, trains, and evaluates the Clinical Review Specialists. This also includes active involvement in the selection, performance evaluation/improvement and disciplinary process. Supports all 4-D Pathway, Re-Designation Year 1 and Annual Quality Improvement activities as needed including portal updates, and tool/webinar development and presentation. Develops and maintains standardized feedback documents, comments, and responses to commonly asked questions, as appropriate. Maintains these materials in an easily accessible, organized manner and ensures they align with the GEC and current evidence. Develops and maintains systems to track hospital submissions and progress. Documents all actions in the BFUSA database in accordance with established procedures. Conducts continuous quality improvement of processes and materials. Ensures all clinical and programmatic updates are properly timed and coordinated with overall organizational priorities. Conducts research to ensure evidence in use remains current to support the GEC. Participates with the leadership to ensure updates and implementation timing align with the needs of each department and are smoothly implemented. Actively participates and implements policy and procedure formation. Acts as a liaison with the Board of Directors’ Clinical Committee. Accepts and executes additional related job assignments.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE /TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS

BSN with a minimum of 5 years of experience in RN management; MSN preferred. Licensed RN with 5 years+ of hospital lactation and maternity care experience and IBCLC or CLC credential are required. Supervisory experience managing and training a small team of direct reports. Experience with remote employees is highly desired. Experience with program development, ideally at a state or national level. Effective oral and written communications as a routine job responsibility. Proficient in utilizing cloud-based file sharing software. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite programs. Secure access to the internet with video streaming bandwidth.

ESSENTIAL CAPABILITIES

Understanding of leadership principles and ability to apply the principles for daily department activities and BFUSA strategic initiatives. Able to conduct research that is evidence-based and apply relevant information to the clinical criteria. Able to resolve conflicts as they arise with minimal negative impact on BFUSA. BFHI. PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE JOB

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, stand, bend, stoop down, kneel, perform repetitive motions using hands to fingers, handle, reach with hands and arms; lift/carry and/or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 25 pounds; perform other physical activities as needed. Role uses a computer 100% of the time, engaging near and mid vision. Ability to frequently and clearly communicate (talk and hear) and visual acuity are required. Regular, predictable attendance and adherence to the assigned schedule are required, as business demands dictate.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The job is performed in an approved private remote workspace, with potential of travel outside of office hours work duties. Moderate noise (i.e. business office with computers, phones, printers, light traffic) are expected. Ability to sit at a computer terminal and meetings for an extended period.
