PURPOSE OF POSITION

The Department of Psychiatry at Woodhull has a very large clinical social work presence as a part of its interdisciplinary team. Chief of Psychiatry:

Responsible for recruitment and retention strategies for all Social Work lines in the department of Psychiatry Creates a strong clinical social work department within Behavioral Health to ensure seamless treatment and quality of care for our patients. Ensures program deliverables, adequate coverage that conforms to basic social work standards and reflects cognizance of interdisciplinary programs through regular, effective and appropriate collaboration with the Chief of Psychiatry, Discipline Directors and Senior Executive Leadership • Identifies quality assessment and improvement issues within the division; Works cooperatively with administrative colleagues in the Department of Social Work in other areas of the hospital and corporation as required Working towards creating a strong learning environment by collaborating with graduate Social Work programs for intern recruitment

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES

The Director serves as a people leader and provides department-wide supervision of and coordination of Social Work staff performance throughout all service areas within Behavioral Health. They function as the lead member of the management team in the Social Work Department in Behavioral Health and part of the leadership team in Behavioral Health. As a member of interdisciplinary teams, the Director of Social Work- BH ensures all staff reporting under the department are operating as per guidelines set forth by National Association of Social Work, establish partnerships with community-based organization and resources. The Director ensures that all staff assigned to the department are providing coordination and interventions which support the continuing care needs of patients and their families. They are responsible for management of grant programs staffed with Social Work staff, tracking department deliverables related to performance metrics attached to the Social Work staff and policy development
Duties & Responsibilities 1. Ensure staff within the Behavioral Health Social Work Department are adhering to documentation and performance guidelines set forth by regulatory bodies
2. Ensure staff compliance with local, state and federal laws
3. Monitor staff compliance with established documentation timeframes specific to OMH, OASAS, CMS and TJC
4. Track deliverables and effectively manage the Social Work Department to ensure operational needs are met within Behavioral Health
5. Consults with chiefs of service, other medical staff, and department heads of other disciplines including Nursing, Psychology, Therapeutic Rehabilitation Services, etc. to ensure effective service delivery for patients in both acute and ambulatory programs/service areas
6. The candidate must be able to implement and monitor systems to ensure treatment continuity between ambulatory and acute services within the department of Behavioral Health at Woodhull
7. Overall coordination of all cases in serviced by staff within the Social Work Department.
8. Available for case consultation to all social work and interdisciplinary staff. 9. Liaison to all relevant community agencies such as OMH, DHS, DOE, OPWDD, ACS, SPOA and task forces providing services to patients and families
10. Demonstrates ability to choose the most appropriate intervention for the individual, problem and situation; ability to prioritize requests for service; ability to adapt to changes in assignments and completes assigned tasks on time
11. Ensuring that discharge planning and referrals to appropriate aftercare programs and the most integrated settings are effectively carried out for each patient. Minimum Qualifications 1. Valid license as an LMSW (Licensed Master Social Worker) or LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker) issued by the New York State Education Department (NYSED); and eight (8) years of experience in social work activities, of which four (4) years must have been in a health or medical setting, including psychiatric social work, and four (4) years must have been in a supervisory, consultative and/or administrative capacity in a social work organization, health or medical care setting, or organization adhering to acceptable standards; or 2. A satisfactorily equivalent combination of training and experience. However, all applicants must possess a valid Social Worker license, as described in “1” above. Additional Qualifications
Candidate with a MSW and LCSW in the state of NY preferred
Experience in Mental Health and service delivery to children and adults EPIC- Electronic Heath Record, Microsoft Word, Excel
