FUNCTION

Assist the Director of Surgical Services to plan, organize, develop, coordinate and direct the operation of the Central Sterile Department and Central Sterile functions in surgery.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Demonstrate knowledge of department process, including management of departmental staff and activities. Assist the Director of Surgical Services with preparation of short and long range plans for the development of the department, which are consistent with the mission of the institution. Assist with preparation of goals and objectives on an annual basis which provide for the implementation of these plans. Assist the Director of Surgical Services with evaluation of the department’s performance with respect to its plans, goals, and objectives on an ongoing basis and formally on an annual basis. Assist the Director of Surgical Services with the development of a quality assurance plan, supervision of its implementation, and report progress on a quarterly basis. Assist the Director of Surgical Services with development, maintenance, and evaluation of departmental policies and procedures, schedule hours and staff for optimal service. Maintain current knowledge of price trends, supply availability, vendor reliability, and new developments and techniques related to Central Supply. Maintain timely reports, files, and records as necessary or required. Demonstrates good employment skills and assists with employee interviews in accordance with established policies and procedures. Monitor the utilization of supplies and equipment maintaining perpetual inventory, as required within budget limits. Participate in U.I.S.S. Committee structure and other professional U.I.S.S. activity which contributes to supply price comparison. Collaborate with the Director of Surgical Services to evaluate Central Supply staff; assist in their goal setting and develop plans and objectives; ensures coverage during periods of absence; initiates corrective measures as appropriate. Identify potential problems and communicate them to the Director of Surgical Services with recommendations for their prevention/resolution. Collaborate with the Director of Surgical Services to ensure staff have accurate job descriptions, are aware of their responsibilities, and will conduct performance appraisals in a timely manner. Collaborate with the Director of Surgical Services to coordinate and maintain a material recall system. Adhere to, train, and monitor others in the theory and safe usage of Hydrogen Peroxide/Peracetic Acid/Metrex 2% Gluteraldenyde. Comply with state and federal governmental rules and regulations regarding health, safety, and equal opportunity. Attend educational and professional meetings as appropriate in order to upgrade professionalism in the field of Central Sterile Supply and management. Assist the Director of Surgical Services to maintain an institutional inventory of medical-surgical patient care items and is conscious of cost containment principles. Monitor, review charge loss reports with Clinical Managers. Collaborate with the Director of Surgical Services to develop and coordinate the educational, competency and training programs for Central Sterile personnel. Work closely with Purchasing and Stores to contain costs and to maintain an accurate inventory of items. Meet with sales personnel to review pricing and new products as assigned by Director of Surgical Services. Other Duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Associates degree in related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and related work experience. Three or more years’ experience in a supervisory capacity with knowledge of hospital operations. Maintain CRCST Certification.

Ability to coordinate multiple demands on time. Surgery, soiled and sterile processing, clinical areas and general office setting. Pay Range:

$65,000-$70,000.00 annually Employee salary is based on commensurate experience and other qualifications.
