8:00am – 5:00pm Primary Function/General Purpose of Position Recruits, trains, schedules, manages and supervises day to day activities of volunteers at Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital. Writes job descriptions for volunteers and initial core competencies: interviews, orients, trains and teaches safety to all new volunteers. Maintains TJC standards for volunteers including individual files, documentation of annual in-services, program evaluation, skills check lists and population specific competencies where appropriate. Coordinates and trains student volunteers. Interviews and orients students for SCRUBS mentoring program. Coordinates and supports social and educational activities for volunteers. Guides and supports RSFH fundraising activities. Plans and hosts recognition and special events. Manages and is responsible for staffing and operations of Hospital Information Desks. Plans and manages annual budget for Volunteer Department. Guides activities of the Roper Auxiliary and coordinates fundraising activities. Coordinates volunteer activities in system sponsored community events. Compiles information for department reports, survey responses, Volunteer Newsletter and attends departmental meetings. Essential Job Functions Recruitment, training, and placement of volunteers: Interview incoming volunteers, assess placement needs, plan orientation and tours. Document safety and health compliance. Plan annual safety reviews. Plan and coordinate student volunteer program. Act as Human Resources department for Volunteer staff.

Volunteer Recognition:

Motivate, encourage, and recognize volunteers. Plan annual recognition celebrations. Nominate for recognition awards as appropriate. Publicize volunteer activities in RSFH and community publications.

Management and supervisory activities:

develop budgets, attend Roper Facility and staff meetings. Participate in system and community committees and work groups. Develop relationships with schools that participate regularly in school to work activities. Coordinate fundraising activities for volunteers.

Newsletter:

gather volunteer related news from system volunteer departments. Compile and distribute monthly newsletter.

Front Desk:

Train and supervise Information Desk volunteers and back up the front desk in their absence. Maintain current reference material for front desk staff – MD rosters, phone directories etc. Performs other job duties and responsibilities as required. Frequently requires long periods of working at a computer. Intermittent walking, standing, stooping, bending, stretching. May require lifting or moving items up to 25 lbs. Frequent use of finger/hand dexterity. Constant talking or hearing. Corrected hearing and vision to normal range. No exposure to blood, body fluids or tissue. Possible exposure to infectious materials, communicable diseases and/or other conditions common to a healthcare environment. Normal office environment. Requires work under stressful conditions, deadlines, and/or irregular hours. Ability to read and comprehend. Travel between facilities may be required.

Skills Hard/Tech/Clinical Skills:

Requires proficiency in Word Processing and desktop publishing. Must possess basic knowledge of all relative safety codes, DHEC and TJC. Responsible for maintaining volunteer files and database, monthly reports and newsletter

Soft/Interpersonal Skills:

Must be self-directed and able to work independently. Must be able to communicate effectively with people of all ages, variable cultural and educational backgrounds.
