Position Summary:

The Perioperative Services Business Coordinator (PSBC) is responsible for performing various tasks and projects with respect to daily charges and charge reconciliation to ensure correct billing and billing practices; works closely with the Directors of Revenue Cycle, Patient Accounting and Materials Management. PSBC will work directly with the Director of Perioperative Services for the main hospital at CMC, Surgical Center South and any other procedural or surgical area on various financial and reimbursement projects, capital procurement, and other acquisitions.

Qualifications:
Education:

Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, healthcare management or other relevant field from an accredited college or university.
Master’s degree in finance, accounting or healthcare management preferred

Experience:

3-5 years related experience and/or training or equivalentbination of education and experience required; Healthcare and/ or Operating Room setting preferred.
Minimum of five (5) years demonstrated in specialty, specific nursing experience required.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Develops capital budget in conjunction with Surgical Services leadership. Ensures that all capital requests are submitted on schedule with proper justification. Prioritizes requests with Department Directors. Monitors capital expenditures and operating budget continuously. Prepares and explains monthly variance reports and develops strategies to rectify in collaboration with Surgical Services leadership. Presents results monthly.
Provides scheduled and requested financial reports related to Surgery and Nursing Division. Reviews monthly responsibility summary reports for accuracy and variances.
Prepares operational dashboard performance reports relative to cost per case, cost per procedure, cost per physician, labor and supply expense per case, revenue/profitability per case. Provides related statistical nursing reports as needed.
Reviews all non-Purchase order related invoices and expenses. Ensure correct sub-accounts are accurately expensed.
Maximizes charge capture and reimbursement, in collaboration with Patient Accounts, Finance, Accounting, Health Information Management, the operating rooms and Materials Management.
Conducts cost/benefit and return on investment analysis for new products, equipment, and new procedures.
Performs labor and expense audits.
Works closely with surgical leadership in addition to surgeons, and staff to identify expense reduction opportunities in Surgical Services and Nursing Division as requested.
Works closely with staff to track supply and equipment utilization and develop solutions to maximize efficiency and reduce cost.
Develops and maintains capital equipment inventory, maintenance, and replacement schedules.
Assists in identifying strategic initiatives, operational goals, and business plans for Surgical Services in collaboration with the Directors and Surgical Services Leadership.
Develops, tracks, and provides necessary oversight regarding operational and cost benchmarks.
Develops procedures for procurement of non-inventory supplies, negotiates agreements with appropriate vendors for purposes of cost savings, assists in execution and maintenance of said agreements.
Maintains and evaluates service contracts for all Surgical Services equipment and primary suppliers andmunicates this information on a regular basis to Directors and Leadership staff.
Acts as a liaison with the Materials Management department to ensure par levels, fill rates, returns and service levels meet the needs of the department in collaboration with the Materials Management Department.
Aids with all aspects of pertinent data collection and analysis for Surgical Services and Nursing Leadership as needed. Develops and supports initiatives and processes throughanization. Assist in developing new revenue streams and services lines. Ensures that data in the Perioperative areas is timely, accurate, and available in various reporting formats as needed. Assists the Nursing and Surgical Services Leadership team with analysis of nursing data as needed. Communicates departmental goals to employees and fosters a work environment that motivates employees to achieve goals, provides financial education and updates to staff on an ongoing basis. Actively participates on various assignedmittees as needed. Leads by example through ongoing collaboration with all members of the Surgical Services Team. Any other job functions requested and/or necessary toplete position objectives. Completes other duties as requested by department leadership.
