Position Description:

The Zoo Veterinary Hospital Manager is an integral member of the veterinary hospital management team. The Hospital Manager will partner with the Medical Director to lead the veterinary team with facility and equipment maintenance as well as ensuring the hospital’s daily operations are met. Responsibilities include coordinating the overall operations of the hospital, ensuring outstanding progressive patient care, and a collaborative team environment with all department leads and staff. The hospital manager ensures the veterinary team delivers high quality care and excellent animal division service. The hospital manager will manage the veterinary team budget and staffing and interfacing with the human resources department for hiring and disciplinary concerns.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Leadership and Planning:

acts as a champion for change and identifies, documents share and promotes best practices. Planning and tracking annual department budget. Oversees the hospital staff schedule and management of labor costs. Assists with forecasting the operational needs of the hospital: DVM/Staff Growth, Equipment additions/replacement, hospital maintenance Oversees hospital policies including DEA/Controlled Substances and OSHA compliance. Ensures accurate tracking and maintenance of current licensure for all DVM’s and LVT’s. Implements performance-based incentives and recognition programs. Ensures physical facility maintenance through collaboration with the Zoo’s Operations Team. Maintains and helps identify hospital equipment needs. Provides or facilitates technical training to improve the skill level of other staff members. Participates in onboarding new hires and all new hire paperwork. Manages schedules for hospital keeper/technical staff as well as coordinates DVM and support schedules with the Medical Director. Assists with scheduling of medical procedures and the incoming and outgoing of animals/preventative care. Assist with donor engagement opportunities and tours.

Qualifications:
Skills:

Strong laboratory skills. Strong organizational and personnel management skills. Excellent verbal and written communicator. Must be adaptable, self-motivated and able to work as part of a team.

Education/Experience:

Degree as a Licensed Veterinary Technician or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree in business or related degree is preferred. At least six years’ experience as an LVT and 4 years working in zoos/aquariums.

Physical Responsibilities:

Work environment is a typical office setting; must be able to sit/stand for an extended time. Must be able to walk throughout the zoo when needed. Must be able to view a computer screen and type for extended periods of time. Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 25 pounds without assistance.

Work Schedule:

Full-time position, averaging 40 hours per week. Must be flexible to work weekends and evenings when needed.
