Job Description
Under the supervision of the HIM Manager, the HIM Specialist organizes, maintains, and manages electronic health records (EHR) in compliance with policies and HIPAA guidelines. Responsibilities include data retrieval, release of information (ROI), and maintaining confidentiality. The role emphasizes attention to detail, organizational skills, and providing excellent customer service. Review and process ROI requests per HIPAA guidelines Log and scan medical records into the EHR system Prioritize and complete daily ROI tasks based on policy deadlines Provide exceptional customer service Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Proficiency in EMR applications (e.g., eClinicalWorks, Lightning Step) and Microsoft Office. Knowledge of confidentiality protocols and medical terminology. Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills. Ability to work independently and meet production goals.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED (required). Data entry experience and HIM program graduation (preferred). Minimum one year of HIM experience, including EHR and ROI knowledge (preferred).
