Position Summary:

Assists the Patient Access Director in planning,directing, updating, and evaluating the processes performed in thevarious locations of the Patient Access Department. Ensures thatservices provided are safe, efficient, and professional in mannerand consistent with departmental and hospital policies. Develops,implements, and evaluates staff education to meet the specificlearning needs of the Patient Access Staff. Oversees the staff andprocesses in multiple locations, providing supervision, support,and coaching while ensuring adequate staffing coverage. Worksclosely with and cross-trains with the Pre Service Manager toexpedite patient flow and insure patient friendly workflows.

Focuses on the keys to patient access success (quality, service,and finance which are all dependent on the people (staff)performing the work).

Position Requirements:

Formal Education /

Training:

College degree preferred, equivalent work experience willbe considered. Must have a working knowledge of Patient Access andprocesses. Must be detailed oriented with knowledge of insurancesand insurance assignment, collections and must have goodcommunication skills to covey department and hospital policies.

Workplace Experience:

At least five years of clerical officeexperience At least five years of patient access managementexperience required

Telephone,Meditech System, scanning software, Fax, PT650, Label/ArmbandPrinters, Copier, Passport, AccuReg, Cisco phone system, API timeand attendance system, Event notification incident reportingsystem, Healthstream On-line training system, Excel, Word,Internet, PowerPoint, and PBX console

Physical Effort:

Key Results:

Coordinates dailyoperations of the Patient Access department in all assignedlocations. Recommends and implements changes of current processesin a cost effective manner. Coordinates staffing of PatientRegistration department to ensure maximum effectiveness andefficiency. Ensures cash management procedures are current and arebeing followed. Facilitates staff development, assists with theorientation/training of new personnel, and participates in thedevelopment of educational program for co-workers. Maintainsknowledge and communicates with staff regarding changes in systemsand/or processes. Maintains working knowledge of all positions indepartment, Meditech modules and other systems used in thedepartment. Uses systems to support/enhance workflows. Works withother departments on issues pertaining to the registration process.

Completes employee evaluations and reviews with staff in a timelymanner in accordance with JCAHO standards. Completes time andattendance edits timely and maintains accuracy in accordance withhospital and departmental policies. Communicates effectively withstaff through staff meetings, email, huddle and individually.

Follows through with issues and responds to others in a timelymanner with resolution. Seeks and performs other related dutiesassigned by the patient access director. Maintains PatientRegistration reports for timely billing and activation ofPRE-status accounts. Ensures VMB is kept up-to-date. Works closelywith Pre Service Manager to ensure efficient and customer focusedwork flows are in place. Supervises, supports and coaches staff.

Effectively manages employees. Re-recruits high-performers andeffectively deals with low-performers. Selects and hires well. UsesLEAN problem solving methodologies effectively. Facilitatesresolution to root causes of issues.
