What you will do The Methodist Transplant Institute, in partnership with The University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC), is accepting applications for a transplant surgeon to serve as the surgical director of kidney transplantation. As a leader in the field of organ transplantation for more than 40 years, this transplant program provides liver, kidney and pancreas transplantation, living donor organ transplantation, and hepatobiliary surgery to patients with end stage organ disease in the Midsouth. The ideal candidate for the surgical director would have greater than 5 years post fellowship experience in deceased and living donor kidney transplantation. Experience in pancreas transplantation and/or laparoscopic or robotic living donor nephrectomy would be beneficial. The surgical director should be a charismatic, skilled leader with a track record of supporting excellent patient outcomes, fostering program growth, and ensuring compliance with UNOS and OPTN rules and bylaws. The surgical director should be able to build relationships with community and internal partners, as the director will be joining an established, high volume kidney transplant program. The surgical director would work side by side with the medical directors and senior administrative director of transplant to ensure high quality patient outcomes while broadening the reach of the Methodist Transplant Institute. The kidney surgical director should be fellowship trained in an ASTS accredited abdominal transplant fellowship as well as be board certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery. Participation in the training of medical students, general surgery residents and transplant surgery fellows is expected. Opportunities to participate in clinical and translational research exist through our endowed Transplant Research Institute. Supervision of advance practice providers is required. A Brief Overview The Physician is responsible for working with the nursing staff and physicians to provide comprehensive medical services and ensure the safety and quality of clinical care in the physician practice and Methodist LeBonheur Hospitals. What you will do Provides and manages direct patient care, including physical examinations, evaluations and assessments using best practices to diagnose and treat patients. Prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions. Refers patients to specialists and to relevant patient care components as appropriate. Evaluates patient for need for and level of prescription medicines required and considers alternative techniques for patient care. Manages the daily operations of a specific medical program, patient care unit, or research function. Directs and coordinates the patient care activities of nursing and support staff as required. Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards. Participates in specified health promotion, education and/or prevention programs. Explains procedures and discusses test results or prescribed treatments with patients and their families as needed. Orders, performs, and interprets tests, and analyzes records, reports, and examination information to diagnose patients’ condition. Maintains accurate and timely completion of all documentation within 3 days of visit or discharge. Coordinates work with nurses, social workers, rehabilitation therapists, pharmacists, psychologists and other health care providers. Supports call coverage for the practice and hospitals.
