DESCRIPTION

Position Title:

Histology Lab Aide Basic Function:

This position is responsible for assisting the Histology Technicians/Technologists with embedding, slide preparation, laboratory maintenance, and inventory in accordance with company policies and procedures. Without limiting the generality of the forgoing, primary responsibilities of the Histology Lab Aide are: Block and Slide Processing Organize blocks in embedding center Taking blocks out of tissue molds and melting/scraping of excess wax on outside of blocks Organization of embedded blocks into trays for sectioning. Loading and unloading of slides on H&E stainer Completing/verifying slides in LIS. Running slide distribution program and assigning cases using the output. Organizing verified slides onto slide boards based on assigned Pathologist. Transport slide boards to Pathologist credenza or courier pickup location Digital Scanning of stained slides Lab Maintenance Routine maintenance of histology equipment including staining equipment and tissue processors. Disposal of slides and blocks in accordance with company policy. Recording of Quality Assurance (QA) temperature and function checks for various equipment. Assist with inventory management

Desired Qualifications:

AA degree, or relevant education. Relevant experience may be substituted in some circumstances. Minimum of one (1) year of experience in the healthcare field.

Detail oriented. Demonstrated interpersonal and ability to interface effectively at all levels of the company. Maturity and stability with the ability to exercise good judgment and make decisions. Excellent communication skills. An individual of unquestionable personal and business integrity. Full spectrum vision to identify and distinguish color. Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers. Near vision to see objects within 20 inches .

Working Conditions:

Work produced is subject to precise measures of quantity and quality. Biohazardous conditions such as fumes and/or toxic or caustic chemicals may be present in this work environment which mandates safety considerations. Sitting or standing for extended periods, sometimes without breaks. Occasionally lifting or carrying objects weighing approximately forty (40) pounds or less.

Histology Supervisor and Histologists Hours of Work:

The hours of work are dictated by the requirements of the position. Normal work hours for this position are Monday through Friday between 4 am- 12:30am (depending on assigned shift). This position will work forty (40) forty to forty hours per week.
