Job Summary and Qualifications What you will do in this role: Performs histological procedures of tissue processing, embedding tissues, cutting ribbons using a microtome, hematoxylin and eosin staining, cover slipping and labeling. Must use exacting technical skills during each of these phases. Performs immunohistochemical stains. Follows prescribed procedures using appropriate control tissues to ensure proper reactivity and staining result. Responsible for properly using and maintaining the QA of histology laboratory equipment: microtome, processors, stainers, embedding, paraffin dispenser and other tools in the histology department. Consistently maintains “positive” patient identification using full patient name, medical record number and/or surgical number. Always matches specimen identification to written or computer information. Never compromises. Performs frozen section processing of tissues using a cryostat. Assist in fine needle aspirates Accepts or rejects specimens for processing, based upon guidelines which maintain specimen integrity and upon positive identification. Responsibilities are mainly for skilled Histology work and NOT for grossing or any procedures such as ISH Performs miscellaneous Histology duties for a Non-certified Histotechnician What qualifications you will need: 5+ years of relevant experience required Fairview Park Hospital is a 175+ bed acute-care hospital serving the City of Dublin, Laurens County, and the surrounding communities.
