Histology Technologist Job Description Prepare histologic slides from human tissue sections for microscopic examination and diagnosis by a Pathologist. Responsibilities + Prepare sections of human tissue for microscopic examination and patient diagnosis using techniques such as grossing, embedding, sectioning, staining, and mounting tissue. + Perform recuts and additional stains including special and immunohistochemistry stains as requested by a Pathologist. + Operate computerized laboratory equipment to fix, dehydrate, and infiltrate tissue specimens with wax for study. + Label requisitions, specimen containers, cassettes, and slides, and affix coverslips to slides. + Maintain laboratory equipment and track routine maintenance and quality controls. + File, retrieve, and distribute blocks, slides, and pathology reports. + Comply with all State, Federal, professional regulations, and company policies and procedures. + Adhere to CAP, CLIA, State Regulations, HIPAA, Safety, and OSHA Regulations. Essential Skills + Experience in tissue culture, histology, stain blocking, microtomy, and grossing. + Knowledge in anatomic pathology procedures including tissue preparation, staining, and slide preparation. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Associate’s Degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology. + Bachelor’s Degree in Biology or Chemistry preferred but not required. + Prior experience with preparing slides and anatomic pathology. Work Environment The work is performed in a diagnostic laboratory facility with a growing team. The position is available on the third shift with two schedules: Sunday to Thursday and Monday to Friday Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $27.00 – $35.00/hr.
