  • A place to learn and grow The Histologist IV works to provide high-quality pathology products to aid in diagnosis.

In a fast-paced, high-volume laboratory, they perform routine tasks and a menu of more advanced tests, such as Immunohistochemistry (including prognostic markers), DIF, Enzyme Histochemistry, and Special Stains. Values quality patient care, a positive work environment, and teamwork. This is a full-time, 40-hour per week, benefitted, evening shift position working Monday

  • Friday, 3:00pm
  • 11:30pm with voluntary on-call at weekends. DHMC offers a 10% shift differential for the evening shift. DHMC and Clinics is offering an $8000 sign-on/retention bonus for this position.

1. Performs processing, embedding & microtomy of routine specimens efficiently with highest quality
2. Performs grossing of specific specimen types if qualified by CLIA regulation.
3. Performs staining; routine & special stains efficiently with highest quality
4. Performs immunohistochemistry efficiently with highest quality
5. Operates and maintains processing and staining equipment
6. Ensures accurate results by following established quality control practices.
7. Identifies when a QC problem exists and notifies appropriate technical staff.
8. Trains in routine and advanced areas of processing, embedding, microtomy & staining.
9. Provides bench leadership including decision making & problem solving

  • At least five years of work experience in a clinical histology laboratory.
  • Exceptional troubleshooting skills using deductive reasoning and scientific method
  • Demonstrates & understands the importance of standardized techniques in all areas of Histology; exemplifies the written procedure
  • Communicates information concisely and effectively, whether written or verbal
  • Possesses skill at technical writing
  • Is comfortable with using spreadsheet software (i.e. Excel) to record data and create reports
  • Is knowledgeable of the trends in Histology & LEAN; has taken the initiative to read & stay current on literature
  • Expresses a desire to learn from others; accepts constructive criticism in a positive manner & strives for continuous improvement
  • Is a patient and encouraging mentor; able to help design and administer training & competency reviews
  • Sets and meets meaningful goals & timelines
  • Carefully manages time to fulfill responsibilities of routine Histology and assigned projects
  • Demonstrates good decision-making and initiative; is self-motivated
  • HT Qualifications
  • Route 1: Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician program within the last five years prior to the date of application for examination.
