Full Job Description Job Summary:

The Transportation Driver is responsible for the safe, timely, and courteous transportation of individuals with special needs to and from their homes, day program site, and on community outings and activities. This position plays a vital role in ensuring a positive start and end to each participant’s day, while promoting respect, safety, and dignity at all times.

Key Responsibilities:

Safely transport individuals with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities between their residences and the day program Operate agency vehicles in accordance with all traffic laws and safety regulations Assist individuals on and off the vehicle as needed, ensuring the use of seatbelts, wheelchair securements, and other safety devices Maintain daily transportation logs, mileage records, and incident reports Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report any maintenance issues Ensure a clean, organized, and safe vehicle environment at all times Follow the daily transportation schedule and route sheet as assigned Communicate promptly with the program or dispatch regarding delays, no-shows, or concerns Provide respectful and courteous interactions with individuals, families, and staff Support participants during outings and community-based activities as needed Uphold confidentiality and promote dignity and independence for all individuals served

Qualifications:
Education:

High school diploma or GED required

Experience:

Prior experience working with individuals with special needs preferred At least 1 year of safe driving experience

Licensure/Certifications:

Valid driver’s license (CDL with passenger endorsement may be required depending on state/vehicle type) Clean driving record First Aid/CPR certification (preferred or required by agency) Defensive driving or specialized transportation training (preferred or provided by agency)

Skills:

Strong sense of responsibility, reliability, and punctuality Compassionate and patient demeanor Ability to lift, push, or assist individuals as needed Good communication and problem-solving skills Ability to follow directions, route sheets, and GPS guidance

Working Conditions:

Requires working early mornings and afternoons, with split shifts possible Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and assist with wheelchair securement Exposure to various weather conditions and road environments
