SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL

(DSP) Job Description Looking for 2 weekday shifts 4 weekend shifts 1 overnight weekend Position Title Direct Support Professional (DSP) Position Summary The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is responsible for providing care, supervision, and support to individuals with developmental disabilities in both home and community settings. This position ensures each resident’s health, safety, personal development, and community inclusion while upholding the organization’s mission and values. DSPs help individuals lead fulfilling lives by encouraging independence, facilitating activities of daily living, and implementing support plans. Core Responsibilities 1. Interact with Residents Communicate respectfully and be sensitive to verbal and non-verbal cues. Provide guidance, counseling, and support in home and community activities such as sports, dining, shopping, and social gatherings. Assist residents in discovering and pursuing personal goals. Teach and guide in daily living skills. Support relationships with family, friends, and guardians. Facilitate religious participation and respect residents’ beliefs. Respect personal space and privacy. Maintain professionalism and appropriate interactions. Care for household and resident belongings in accordance with resident preferences. 2. Support Resident Health and Well-Being Follow individual Support Plans, Implementation Plans, and Behavior Plans. Communicate resident status during shift changes. Maintain documentation in Therap, MAR, ABC Data, Sleep Log, and RSR. Assist with hygiene, grooming, and dressing. Monitor and report medical changes and emergencies. Follow all medical directives. Communicate with medical personnel in emergencies. Accompany residents to medical appointments. Administer medications and treatments (if MAP trained). Assist residents with mobility and lifting needs. Maintain accurate financial and purchase records. 3. Carry Out Safety, Meal Preparation, and Cleaning Procedures Participate in emergency drills and evacuations. Maintain clear pathways and exits. Use safety equipment as trained. Secure residents with safety straps when applicable. Provide crisis intervention as trained.

Meal Preparation and Food Handling:

Prepare and serve meals per nutrition guidelines. Share meals with residents when possible. Assist residents with eating and clean-up. Label and store food appropriately.

Home and Van Maintenance:

Follow cleaning checklists and complete all household duties. Maintain laundry and bedding cleanliness. Refuel and document van maintenance. 4. Follow Supervisory Directions Seek guidance from supervisors when in doubt. Follow all given assignments and directions. 5. Collaborate Effectively with Coworkers Communicate respectfully and effectively. Respond to coworkers’ cues and emergencies. 6. Uphold Core Values Maintain alignment with company values and culture. 7. Training and Development Complete all state-mandated training. Attend staff meetings and performance reviews. Participate in GroupMe and email communications. 8. Professionalism Maintain positive attitude and professionalism. Avoid gossip and inappropriate discussions. 9. Scheduling Adherence Be punctual and remain until replaced. Work holidays and inclement weather shifts. Submit PTO requests 30 days in advance. 10. Policy Compliance Adhere to all company policies and procedures. 11. Additional Duties Accept other duties as assigned. 12. Reporting Requirements Report unsafe or illegal activity immediately. Non-Essential Functions Perform home maintenance tasks. Propose creative solutions for care and routines.

Required Qualifications Character Traits:

Sound judgment, independence, responsibility, empathy, communication, self-control, and stress tolerance.

Physical Agility:

Adequate vision, hearing, verbal skills, writing, math, and physical ability to lift 70 lbs.

Additional Requirements:

Must be at least 18 years old. High school diploma or GED. One year of relevant experience. Valid driver’s license and clean driving record. Ability to provide care for male clients. Fluent in English. Willing to work flexible shifts. Reliable transportation. Appropriate use of phone/internet. Familiarity with medical terminology. Ability to use iPads, appliances, and cleaning products. Organizational and multitasking skills. Schedule & Compensation Non-exempt position with rotating shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Paid time off available after one year of service. Holiday pay (1.5x) after 90 days of employment for the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day (July 4), Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
