Position Summary:
The Home Health Aide (HHA) Instructor is responsible for providing classroom and clinical instruction to students enrolled in an HHA training program that meets the standards set by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH). The instructor ensures students acquire the knowledge, skills, and competencies required to provide quality care in home settings.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver instruction based on the Massachusetts DPH-approved Home Health Aide curriculum (75-hour minimum requirement). Teach key topics including personal care, infection control, nutrition, patient rights, communication, and vital signs. Supervise students during 16 hours of required clinical training in a home care or simulated environment. Conduct skills demonstrations and assess student competency using written tests and hands-on evaluations. Maintain all required documentation including student attendance, evaluations, skills checklists, and clinical hours. Ensure compliance with all DPH, OSHA, and HIPAA regulations during instruction. Provide supportive feedback and remediation to students as needed. Serve as a role model for professional behavior and compassionate caregiving.
Qualifications:
Required:
Registered Nurse (RN) licensed in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. At least two (2) years of nursing experience , with at least one (1) year in home health care or a community health setting. Completion of a DPH-approved Train-the-Trainer program (or willingness to complete before teaching). Strong understanding of Massachusetts HHA training regulations (105 CMR 700.000). Excellent communication, leadership, and teaching skills.
Preferred:
Experience teaching adults or supervising aides in a home care setting. Familiarity with electronic documentation and online learning platforms. Bilingual abilities (Haitian Creole, Spanish, Portuguese etc.).
Working Conditions:
Instruction takes place in classroom, lab, and clinical (home care/simulated) environments. Must be able to travel to clinical training locations throughout the service area. Evening or weekend instruction may be required based on student schedules.
Compliance Notes:
This position must adhere to Massachusetts DPH standards for Home Health Aide Training , including: Minimum 75-hour training program. 16 hours of supervised practical training. Maintenance of program records for DPH audit.
