PCA Personal Care Assistant Laclede Association for Developmental Disabilities Lebanon, MO 65536 Job Summary We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Personal Care Assistant (PA) to join our team! PA’s are responsible for teaching consumers how to manage everyday tasks to help them gain independence and move forward in life. PA’s will work one-on-one to help consumers with unique challenges develop basic life skills, such as cooking, hygiene, money skills, community integration, social skills, etc. The PA must follow the Individual Support Plan and keep daily detailed data sheets. Responsibilities Assist with Instrumentals Activities of Daily Living, such as shopping, banking, budgeting, using public transportation, social interaction, recreation, and leisure activities. Assist with the accompaniment, cueing and minor problem-solving necessary to achieve increased independence, productivity, and inclusion in the community. Focus first on the person being served and understand that your role in direct support will require flexibility, creativity, and commitment. Know and respect the values of the people supported and facilitate their expression of choices related to those values. Provide advocacy when the individual’s preferences, needs, or talents are neglected or overlooked. Encourage growth and recognize the autonomy of the individuals receiving services while also being attentive reducing the risk of harm. Develop relationships with individuals that are respectful, based on mutual trust, and that maintains professional boundaries. Address challenging behaviors proactively and respectfully, using methods outlined in the consumer’s Person -Centered Plan. Help individuals understand and express their rights and responsibilities. Recognize that everyone has potential for lifelong learning and growth. Assist the individuals to understand their options and the possible consequences of their options as they relate to their physical emotional health and wellbeing. Be conscious of your own values and how they influence your professional decisions. Maintain competency in your profession through continued learning and being an active participant in staff meetings and trainings. Assume responsibility and accountability for your actions and decisions. Recognize the importance of modeling valued behaviors to co-workers, individuals receiving services, and the community at large. Practice responsible work habits. Being on time for work. Completing all necessary documentation to assure compliance with all state and federal regulations. These may include but are not limited to: daily data sheets and clinic notes, attendance logs, time records, behavior reports, accident reports, seizure reports, tec. Maintaining strict confidentiality for all consumer information, and facility operations. Qualifications Previous experience as a Personal Care Assistant or in a similar role is preferred. Be at least 18-years old. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team focused on high-quality consumer care. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Compassionate demeanor with a genuine desire to help others. Must be able to pass background checks with the Missouri Family Care Registry and any required health screenings.
