The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a crucial role in providing compassionate care and support to individuals with disabilities or special needs. This position involves assisting clients in their daily activities, promoting independence, and ensuring a safe and nurturing environment. The DSP will work closely with clients to enhance their quality of life through various supportive measures. Responsibilities Assist clients with personal care tasks, including bathing, grooming, and dressing. Provide home care support by helping with household tasks such as cooking, cleaning, and laundry. Monitor and document client health and behavior, ensuring any changes are reported to the appropriate personnel. Administer medication as prescribed and ensure proper medication management. Support clients in social activities and community engagement to promote inclusion. Lift and transfer clients safely as needed, ensuring their comfort and safety during the process. Maintain a clean and organized living environment for clients in group home or hospice settings. Provide companionship and emotional support to enhance the well-being of clients. Collaborate with healthcare professionals to develop individualized care plans tailored to each client’s needs. Qualifications Previous experience in patient care or home care settings is preferred. Knowledge of CPR and first aid is highly desirable. Experience working in group homes, nursing homes, or hospice care is a plus. Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with clients are essential. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds safely when assisting clients. Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to help others are critical traits for success in this role. Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
