Support Coordinator and Agency Program Supervisor Position Summary:

We are seeking a compassionate, organized, and culturally sensitive Direct Support Professional (DSP) to support a young Hispanic man in Hudson County who is new to DDD services and is highly motivated to improve his employment readiness, personal care, and community engagement skills. This role involves non-clinical, person-centered mentoring in both in-home and community settings. The ideal candidate is bilingual (Spanish preferred) , encouraging, physically capable of providing hands-on support, and confident in guiding others through structured learning activities and social outings.

Key Responsibilities:

Employment Readiness (Soft Skills Focus Only) Support participant in exploring various career options through discussion and community-based observation. Guide participant in identifying job expectations, routines, and cultural fit. Maintain a job interest log and facilitate reflection discussions after each community visit. Resume Building & Tech Skills Provide step-by-step instruction on building and formatting a resume using Microsoft Word. Assist with vocabulary, editing, and saving documents. Help participant develop comfort explaining his work history and goals. Job Search Assistance (Non-Vocational) Teach and model how to search and apply for jobs online and in person. Assist with job site profile creation, application tracking, and follow-up communication. Provide mock phone call practice and application form walkthroughs. Interview Preparation Conduct role-play exercises to improve participant’s interview confidence and communication. Practice tone, body language, and scripted responses to common questions. Record mock interviews for review and feedback. Personal Care & Independent Living Encourage hygiene routines such as showering, shaving, brushing teeth, and dressing neatly. Assist with developing basic housekeeping skills, laundry, and meal planning. Promote grooming and presentation as part of building self-confidence. Community Integration & Social Enrichment Plan and accompany participant on purposeful outings (e.g., museums, skateparks, stores, events). Facilitate positive social interactions and community involvement. Encourage reflection after outings through discussion or journaling.

Required Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED Valid NJ Driver’s License and reliable transportation Must pass background check and DDD required training Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities Patience, emotional intelligence, and ability to provide gentle physical assistance when needed Strong organizational and communication skills Spanish fluency or familiarity with Hispanic culture strongly preferred

Preferred Attributes:

Experience in coaching, mentoring, or behavioral support roles Basic computer skills, especially in Microsoft Word Familiarity with New Jersey’s DDD system and Community-Based Supports model Creative, enthusiastic, and adaptable in real-life teaching moments Ability to foster independence while being hands-on

Compensation:

$20 hourly rate based on experience. Paid training and ongoing support provided by agency.
