You will assist in the daily care of elderly or disabled individuals. Katura Health has been providing support and community-based services to the elderly population and individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities since 2020. Our experience includes services for people across a spectrum of abilities and specialized needs including people who are deaf-blind, deaf, or blind, people with intensive medical and behavioral support needs, and people with autism spectrum disorder. Responsibilities:
Provide direct care and support to the elderly population and individuals with disabilities or special needs Assists individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities to lead an independent life; assists with activities of daily living and encourages attitudes and behaviors that enhance community inclusion. Model and support people to develop daily living skills, leisure skills, socialization skills, adaptive behavior skills, and workplace readiness skills, to increase independence Assist with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, and grooming when necessary Administer medications and monitor health conditions Implement behavior management strategies and provide emotional support Assist with meal planning, preparation, and feeding Support individuals in participating in recreational activities and community outings Document individual progress and report any concerns or incidents to the supervisor Monitor individual’s daily activity through documentation in progress notes, T-Log, and verbal communication with supervisors and co-workers.
Implement and assist individuals with completion of goals and document efforts in the Daily Training Record and Progress Notes. Ensure optimal physical/mental health by assisting individuals with scheduled medical/psychiatric appointments, monitoring medication supply and administering medication, following prescribed diets, and treatment/behavior plans. Utilize crisis intervention and personal control techniques as trained, to ensure safety to individuals and others. Provide safe transportation to and from work/day program services, scheduled appointments, and recreational activities or assist clients in scheduling public transportation. Report all incidents, including allegations of abuse, neglect, exploitation, injury and other reportable incidents immediately upon discovery. Cooperate fully with investigative processes, and provide complete and accurate information. Keep all information discussed in investigations confidential. Attend all mandatory meetings and training as required. Monitor own time card to ensure correct recording of hours worked, and use of benefit time. Adhere to all Agency policies and procedures. Practice and implement all emergency procedures including, but not limited to: fire, disaster drills, and other crisis response procedures. Adhere to all confidentiality policies, practices, and laws.
Required Skills:
Experience working with individuals with autism, hospice care, or senior care is a plus 1-year experience working with developmentally disabled individuals Computer literacy using Microsoft Word; familiar Knowledge of behavior management techniques and strategies Ability to lift and transfer individuals as needed Strong communication skills to effectively interact with individuals, families, and other team members Understanding of resident rights and ability to advocate for individual needs Must be 21 years of age or older HS Diploma or Equivalent Driver’s license with no more than two moving violations w/in three years. Physical including tuberculosis screening. Mandatory five-day orientation and professional skills training at agency headquarters in West Orange, NJ; Ability to pass and maintain required training including CPR, medication administration, and positive behavioral support training. Basic computer skills. Ability to provide mobility support and physical transfers Comfort with hands-on hygiene support/total care of people with physical support needs.
