The Direct Support Professionals (DSP) Academic Success Coach will support DSPs currently working in the field as they pursue a series of credit-bearing micro credentials and work toward national certification from the National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals (NADSP). An Academic Success Coach will involve advising and mentoring students through their completion of required written assignments for the NADSP certification and navigation through the NADSP e-badge learning management system. This work is part of an innovative program underway at 21 SUNY campuses through a partnership with the New York State Office for People With Developmental Disabilities. Two positions, approximately 50% time each, will be hired in order to cover expanded hours for student support in the evenings and weekends, and for general campus over-flow support.

Job Duties:

The DSP Academic Success Coach will: + Serve as an academic resource for DSP micro credential students’ badge completion for NADSP national licensure requirements + As requested by campus, assist DSP micro credential student in course registration required in each of the three micro-credentials both fall and spring, and where applicable winter and summer intersessions. As students near completion of the three micro-credentials, provide advising as requested for students to pursue the Human Services AS degree and refer them to Financial Aid as needed. + Identify at-risk students and develop interventions for success. This will include working closely with other campus personnel (e.g. other coaches, tutors, counselors) and faculty, and meeting regularly with students. + Review student requests for personal emergency funding and work closely with Student Billing to ensure funding is processed correctly and timely. + As needed, work with local agencies to recruit DSPs into the program. This may include attending and presenting at local agencies and speaking with potential students in groups and individually, and collaborating with the college’s Director of Admissions.

Job Requirements:
Required Education/Qualifications:

+ Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in Human Services or other related field + At least 3 years of DSP or DSP-related experience + A solid understanding of student success and retention strategies in higher education, preferably with adult learners + Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work closely with faculty and other coaches and staff + A strong understanding of the Direct Support profession + Must be able to provide student support in the evenings and/or weekends.

The salary range is $30,000-$32,500 per year, The pay will depend on a variety of factors that may include but are not limited to experience, education, training, and certifications
