Job Description

Director – Direct Support Professional (FT) SUNY Sullivan 112 College Road, Loch Sheldrake, NY 12759 Job description: The Director of DSP Support will oversee DSP’s currently working in the field, as they pursue SUNY Sullivan’s 3-tiered micro-credential program. This position will involve advising and mentoring students through their college-level coursework, supporting them as they pursue their National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals (NADSP) e-badging including tracking completion, and supervising the DSP support staff as needed. This is a grant-funded position and reports directly to Academic Affairs. This is a full time position with a salary range of $65,000 per year.

Qualifications:
  • Associates required, Bachelor’s degree preferred, in particular in Human Services or related field.
  • At least three years of experience as a Direct Support Professional or within a related field.
  • Strong understanding of DSP work and schedules, and challenges adult learners face in higher education.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Ability to drive to/from local agencies for recruitment responsibilities.
Job Duties:
  • Serve as the primary Academic Advisor and Mentor for DSP micro-credential students, which includes registering them for the courses required in each of the three micro-credentials both fall and spring, and where applicable winter and summer intersessions. This may require being available early evenings and weekends.
  • Work closely/regularly with students prioritizing successful completion of courses and NADSP e-badges.
  • Work closely with Deans/Chairs/Directors on planning for required courses each academic term which should be included on the master schedule.
  • Identify at-risk students and develop interventions for success. This will include working closely with One Stop personnel (e.g. tutors and personal counselors) and faculty, and meeting regularly with students.
  • Review student requests for personal emergency funding and work closely with Student Billing to ensure funding is processed correctly and timely.
  • Work with local agencies to recruit DSP’s into the program. This may include attending and presenting at local agencies and speaking with potential students in groups and individually, and collaborating with the college’s Director of Admissions.
  • As students near completion of the three micro-credentials, advise them on pursuing the Human Services AS degree and refer them to Financial Aid as needed.
  • Track all data related to DSP students including completion of micro-credentials, tracking progress through the 3 tiers, completion of e-badges and follow up with students.
  • Complete and submit all reports required by SUNY, OPWDD, and the University of Minnesota’s Institute on Community Integration.
  • Attend
SUNY/OPWDD

meetings as needed.

  • Complete other duties as assigned by supervisor.
