Job Description
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is responsible for assisting people receiving services to live a full and meaningful life, by providing a wide variety of supports. The DSP encourages, and teaches skills to promote autonomy, community inclusion and provide a safe and healthy environment.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Review, understand and follow each persons plan of protective oversight, Individual Service Plan, safeguards, comprehensive functional assessment (CFA), or other service-related documentation or plan and Behavior Support plansEnsure peoples safety by following Safeguards or Individual Plan of Protective OversightSupport people in their personal care and document as required.
Prepare food for prescribed diets and assist/monitor people while eatingReposition people in beds or chairs as neededAssist in ambulation and/or transfers with people throughout the day.
Assist people to participate in community activities of their choice and build or enhance relationshipsDocument on a designated Agency form (ABC Sheet) persons behaviors as requiredAttend to routine health-care needs of people under supervision of medical personnelAssist / perform household activities: cooking, cleaning, housekeeping, laundry, shopping, etcMaintain a safe and comfortable environment for the people servedAssist other team members when the opportunity presents itself, when requested by another team member or assist in emergency situations and routine fire drillsInspect equipment and environment for malfunction / disrepairCommunicate questions, concerns or issues to appropriate personnelPerform CPR & First Aid as neededPerforms other duties assignedRequired QualificationsMust be at least 18 years of age OR high school diploma, or equivalentValid NYS Driver’s License, one year minimum of licensed driving experienceDemonstrates ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and orallyAbility to work flexible hoursFundamental computer skillsPhysical DemandsLifting / PullingSquatting / kneelingWalking and/or Standing frequentlyReaching / Bending•Sign-On Bonus Up to $600!
