POSITION SUMMARY
The home health aide is a paraprofessional staff member trained to provide personal care, activities of daily living, exercise programs, and related services in the home for the sick and disabled, when no family member can assume this responsibility. This employee functions under the direction, instruction and supervision of the registered nurse and/or therapist.
QUALIFICATIONS
Completion of a formal home health aide/nursing assistant program is preferred. Successfully completes Agency Competency Evaluation One [1] year of supervised employment as a home health aide or nursing assistant Scores at or above the 75% score on the nursing assistant evaluation/pre-employment test Ability to understand and carry out directions and instructions and keep appropriate records Hold current HSFA card Reliable, independent means of transportation to make home visits Car must be covered by established amount of insurance as described in personnel policies Driver must have valid driver’s license
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Skills Provide personal care including: a. Bathing b. Dressing c. Grooming d. Hair Care e. Nail Care f. Assistance with ambulation g. Changing position in bed h. Assistance with transfers i. Oral hygiene j. Changing bed linens of an incontinent beneficiary k. Shaving l. Deodorant application m. Skin care with lotions and/or powder n. Foot care o. Ear care p. Feeding q. Assistance with elimination [enemas, routine catheter care, routine colostomy care] C. Simple dressing changes that do not require the skills of a nurse D. Assistance with medications that are ordinarily self-administered and do not require the skills of a licensed nurse to be provided safely and effectively r.
Assistance with medications may include:
s. Handing the bottle to the patient t. Opening the bottle u. Handing the patient water or other liquid to take the medication v. Reminding the patient to take a prescribed medication F. Assistance with activities that are directly supportive of skilled therapy services but do not require the skills of a therapist to be safely and effectively performed.
Examples of such activities include:
w. Routine maintenance exercises x. Repetitive speech routines to support speech-language pathology services H. Routine care of prosthetic and orthotic devices F. Performs all duties as assigned.
