out of 5 stars 715 Emory Valley Rd, Oak Ridge, TN 37830 The Employment and Community First (ECF) Direct Support Professional (DSP) will assist people supported in leading self-directed lives as participating and contributing members of their communities. Services included are Community Integration Support Services, Independent Living Skills Training, Personal Assistance, Supportive Home Care, Respite and Community Transportation. The ECF Direct Support Professional will encourage the development of physical, intellectual, emotional, and social skills and behaviors that enhance inclusion in the community and will help the person achieve their identified outcomes/goals. Maintains a high quality person centered program in accordance with Company standards, mission and vision.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Engage yourself with each person supported utilizing information found in the Person Centered Support Plan (PCSP) as well as the persons own vision for a meaningful life utilizing the implementation plan. Documentation will be completed using the daily notes format. Assist the person supported to have maximum participation in an integrated community life participating in meaningful relationships, friendships and social networks which could include volunteer opportunities, employment, and hobbies in the community developing a natural support network for the person that increases independence. Assist the person supported with daily living skills that may take place in the home or in the community that will require a specific plan and strategies for teaching skills of independent living related to personal hygiene, food and meal preparation, home upkeep, money management, community resource, parenting, computer use, and driving evaluation and lessons. Promote community relationships assisting the person supported to enhance skills that will lead to service fading. Community mapping near the person supported’s neighborhood will be necessary to assist the persons involvement in the area in which they live to support the person to become independent. Persons supported will receive the support necessary to take informed risks to improve the quality of their lives by researching safety practices and making decisions that make sense in situations. Administers medication(s) and completes appropriate documentation in accordance with the needs of the person supported over the age of 18 after completion of the Medication Administration for Unlicensed Personnel with the Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (DIDD). Other duties as assigned by the Workforce Innovation Director, Sr. Vice President of Operations, and President.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
They should possess critical thinking skills to re-direct their attention to unpredictable events. Ability to read and write English. Ability to exercise good judgment, possess the ability demonstrate excellent emotional self-regulation. They should possess great coping skills to remain calm in a crisis situation. Utilizes electronic verification system as required for Company operations. Ability to interact with a wide range of people, and to deal honestly and tactfully with the public. Ability to encourage and stay positive with acceptance and education relative to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Consider a variety of enabling technology in a person supported’ s life, thinking creatively about technology persons may already have available. (smartphone, tablet) Envisioning enabling technology to be autonomous in day-to-day activities to develop a person’s ability to be independent in their daily lives. (home, community, and employment) Identify person supported needs and interests in technology, community, goals and objectives including employment and volunteer opportunities, memberships, and hobbies. Ability to establish a comfortable and supportive relationship with persons supported. Ability to lift 50 pounds (weight of average manual wheelchair when chair is empty). Basic computer skills.
EDUCATIONAL AND WORK EXPERIENCE
Must be at least 18 years of age. High School diploma (or equivalent).
REQUIRED LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATES
Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (DIDD) and Managed Care Organization (MCO) designated online training, First Aid, CPR, Medication Administration for Unlicensed Personnel, and any other required trainings. Emory Valley Center Orientation. Department of Transportation physical exam as applicable. Person Centered Thinking Training.
WORKING CONDITIONS
May be required to assist with personal hygiene of person supported. Frequent lifting, stretching and other physical exertion during positioning of the person or using equipment. May work with people who exhibit aggressive or violent conduct. While performing the duties of the job, employee travels by automobile, may utilize own vehicle, and is exposed to changing weather conditions. May assist with wheelchair transfer of non-ambulatory people. May be exposed to various medical conditions and communicable diseases. Work will take place in the community and/or in the person’s home. Flexible schedule as determined by supervisor and Company needs with the possibility of working occasional overtime.
