Job Description

Personal Assistant / Direct Support Professional Neighbor Links, LLC. Ooltewah, TN 37363 Support hours needed with availblity to work: Sunday thru Friday 8a-4p (Saturday as needed) We are looking for 2 or 3 support staff with experience with in-home caregiving that live in the support location. Support location is Ooltewah, TN – Highway 58 area Experienced in-home support staff are encouraged to apply and negotiate pay.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) / Personal Assistant uses best practices and technology within a community based home setting to teach people with intellectual and developmental disabilities how to acquire the physical, intellectual, emotional, and social skills needed to live as independently as possible. Performs all duties necessary to meet state-approved objectives and requirements. Maintains a high quality program in accordance with state and company standards, policies and mission.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Assists individuals, as necessary, with daily living skills and the development of independent community skills. Assists in the development of a weekly schedule for each person to maximize their time spent in the community. Completes training with individuals towards achieving support plan outcomes and goals. Monitors and reports health and medical needs of individuals. Assists (may administer w/ approved training) medication(s) and completes appropriate documentation. Accompanies individual(s) to and from appointments, employment, and activities. Builds a support network between the individuals and community members. Accurately completes all in-house documentation; maintains current case notes, maintains person receipts and monthly reports of individual’s progress. Provides reports on a person(s)’s progress and how it relates to overall goals. May serve as train-the-trainer for various individual specifics training. Maintains inventory and ensures adequate supply of groceries and household items. May oversee person funds.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Attends staff meetings as determined by a manager. Attends conferences, seminars, and training relevant to the position. Attends Interdisciplinary Team meetings when necessary. Cooperates with internal and State investigations and inspections. Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

The ability to exercise good judgement and remain calm in a crisis situation. The ability to interact with a wide range of people. Ability to establish a comfortable and supportive relationship with a person receiving support. Ability to read and write English and do basic Math. Ability to lift 50 pounds (weight of average manual wheelchair when chair is empty).

EDUCATIONAL AND WORK EXPERIENCE

Preferred High School diploma (or equivalent). Preferred Minimum of one-year experience in the role of Direct Support Professional, or one-year experience in a related field.

REQUIRED LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATES

First Aid / CPR and any other required agency training within the first 30 days of employment. State training as required. Neighbor Links, LLC. orientation. Valid driver’s license / Insurance with satisfactory driving record. Satisfactory criminal background.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Frequent lifting, stretching, and other physical exertion during positioning of person’s or equipment. While performing the duties of the job, employees may travel by automobile, utilizing their own vehicle, and are exposed to changing weather conditions. May transport participants in their own vehicle. May occasionally assist with wheelchair transfer of non-ambulatory individuals May be exposed to various medical conditions and communicable diseases. Work will take place in the community and in the homes of individuals supported. Flexible schedule as determined by manager.
