Phlebotomist Apply Job Type Full-time Description Schedule:
This role will be supporting the Central Alabama Veterans Healthcare System. Shifts include 7:30am – 4 pm or 8:00 am- 4:30 pm depending on the need of the service, for 40 hours, Monday through Friday with possible weekend rotation.

Job Duties + Perform in-house laboratory procedures on appropriate specimens to provide information for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases within the scope of the clinic. + Recognize and respond to critical values as they pertain to patient tests, results, controls, and proficiency samples + Ensure specimens are properly collected and labeled + Enter laboratory requests/results into the
VISTA/CPRS
system. + Ensure that all lab equipment is maintained and calibrated following manufacturers’ recommendations and clinic policies and procedures + Assure quality controls are run and documented per manufacture and system guidelines. + Comply with the performance measures and clinical guidelines as set forth in the current VHA Performance Measures Technical Manual or by verbal direction and comply with all requirements specified by the VAMC that issues the contract. + Comply with the CDC’s “Universal Precautions” for the prevention and transmission of HIV and other communicable diseases. + Other duties as assigned. +
Compliance:
Fulfill compliance requirements of the Office of Inspector General (OIG), Joint Commission (JC), Environment of Care (EOC) oversight, lab compliance and other related items. + Responsible for ensuring that contaminated material and trash are maintained in proper containers (red bags) +
Clinical Outcomes:
Remain focused on achieving excellent clinical outcomes through the specified VA guidelines. +
Customer Service:
Must provide excellent customer service to each veteran, both in person and over the phone, as well as to fellow colleagues and clinic visitors. + Establish and maintain a warm, welcoming, and professional atmosphere for our colleagues and veterans, ensuring needs and expectations are consistently met. + Collaborates with Clinic leadership to resolve veteran concerns or complaints. Requirements + The MT or MLT must be certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT) or an equivalent MT, MLS, or CLS certification with appropriate training + Minimum of one year experience in the last three years. + Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in medical laboratory science, medical technology, clinical laboratory or related science. + Contractor’s assigned personnel shall be certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) (CPR). Certifications must be obtained or issued by the American Heart Association (AHA). + Must be a US Citizen. This job is
