A SUMMARY

The Analytical Lab Technician plays an integral role in product development and growth of the PFX /Prestone Organization. The responsibilities include the setup, testing, and documentation of analytical testing including physical properties and wet chemistry testing, based out of the Prestone Danbury, CT Site. The Prestone Technology Center Analytical laboratory also performs ICP, HPLC/UHPLC, and

GC/GC-MS

testing on automotive consumer products. The Analytical Technician will be expected to run a variety of analytical tests in a demanding fast-paced environment with the internal R D team as well as external partners to support the development of products, and solve problems based on the needs of the business.

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are currently seeking an applicant interested in a long-term position in the Prestone Technology Center conducting analytical testing to support research activities, production, product stewardship, and technical growth. A person with experience in analytical laboratory testing is preferred. Job assignments are varied; thus, flexibility is essential. As part of the Research and Development team a technician must be able to work on multiple R D or Development test items simultaneously. Duties include but are not limited to running and monitoring analytical laboratory testing equipment, conducting wet chemistry tests to evaluate automotive products, analyzing test results and reporting results with supervision. An interest in automobile technology is highly desirable.

Minimum Requirements:

Minimum education required is BSc degree level in chemistry or equivalent science. Must be able to follow instructions, work independently and safely in a laboratory environment and work on several projects at the same time. Strong written communication skills are required. A background in analytical instruments, preferably within the consumer products industry, is a plus. Ability to work well with peers is required. Ability/desire to grow technically through continued education and learning is essential.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Job assignments are varied, and flexibility is essential. Basic requirements include. Conducts activities following established Corporate and Site Safety procedures and notifies the Supervisor of any unsafe conditions or practices in the area. Prepares materials, sets up, and runs instruments and reports analytical test results. Operates physical, chemical, optical, and analytical equipment for samples submitted to the PTC Analytical laboratory. Records and tabulates data in laboratory notebook in legal form following defined procedures. Observes irregularities, unusual behavior, or trends in tests, and interprets causes with the help of Supervising Managers. Communicates the results of work to Supervisors following prescribed procedures. Work with Microsoft Access sample tracking database, including entering, reporting and logging out samples. Prepares periodic written reports. Key Responsibilities Plan, schedule and carry out to completion, sample testing in accordance with PTC Analytical Laboratory Management system with supervision. Communicates results, conclusions and recommendations in person and in formal written reports. Must be able to safely follow detailed Analytical test procedures, making observations, recording test data into spreadsheets and laboratory notebooks, and summarizing data into presentable form. Assist in the preparation of departmental documentation including standard operating procedures, job safety analysis procedures and project technical reports. The design of new and novel analytical test procedures to support new product development. Ensure that samples are reported on time, meeting quality and turnaround targets. Answer technical enquiries related to your work accurately and quickly. Conduct research to stay up to date with analytical instrument trends and submit ideas for cost saving and new or improved test method opportunities. Drive improved standards of safety and housekeeping and lead initiatives to improve laboratory practices. Ensure that all activities within the laboratory are risk assessed and documented. Possess good oral communication skills and a flexible approach to work. Conducts self in a professional manner and exerts a positive impact upon the morale and attitude of other team members.
