JOB SUMMARY
Performsclinical lab procedures, quality assurance and instrumentmaintenance.
SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Recognizes testinconsistencies and takes appropriate corrective action. Verifiesand calls critical results to physicians or nurses immediately andaccording to lab policy. Reviews results for clerical accuracyprior to completing. Runs quality control tests according to labpolicy and maintains appropriate data recording. Takes appropriatecorrective action when quality control results are outsideacceptable limits. Documents action taken. Seeks help from leadtechnician, technical supervisor, or lab director as required.
Holds patient results until quality control standards meet agencyand facility guidelines. Reports unresolved errors to the leadtechnician, technical supervisor, or lab director. Observes andfollows department preventive maintenance schedules. Documents allinstrument checks, preventive maintenance, problems and correctiveaction taken. Recognizes, analyzes, and takes corrective action toresolve instrument/clinical problems. Reports unresolvedinstrument/clinical problems to the lead technician, technicalsupervisor, or lab director Checks outstanding tests list in atimely manner and troubleshoots/follows through on outstandingtests which appear to have not been collected/received whenexpected Obtains blood specimens and collects non-blood specimenssuch as urine, sputum, and throat swabs for laboratory testingAnswers phone calls – record request for blood collection, answersgeneral questions concerning test orders and collection takesmessages and routes calls. Uses at least 2 patient identifiers oneach patient encounter. Explains procedures/process beforeobtaining specimens Offers additional assistance; seeks to ensurepatient satisfaction before concluding encounter. BASIC SKILLSBasic computer knowledge and ability to touch type. Ability todiscern color. Experience with lab information systems or thewillingness to learn. Ability to work on several projects orcommittee if there is a desire Ability to utilize hands onknowledge from theory
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED MLT
(ASCP) certification or equivalent. Associates degree in MedicalTechnology or chemical, physical or biological science. Educationin all age groups ranging from newborn to the geriatric populationobtained either in a school education or subsequent training.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Able to communicate effectively in English, bothverbally and in writing. Additional languages a plus.
PHYSICALREQUIREMENTS
