SUMMARY•Work involves laboratory duties and reclaim system inspections. Due to the nature of the work, appropriate safety footwear must be worn at all times in designated areas. The City provides reimbursement for approved safety shoes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs reclaimed water field site inspections for the City’s reclaimed water distribution system (i.e., boxes, connections, etc.) in accordance with FDEP requirements. Informs new and existing City customers of rules and requirements of reclaimed water use. Collects and performs chemical and bacteriological analyses of plant and field samples in accordance with standard methods for the following compounds/parameters: carbonaceous biochemical oxygen demand (CBOD), total suspended solids (TSS), total phosphorus, nitrate/nitrite, chlorine residue, pH, turbidity, fecal coliform and routine lab analysis. Participates in US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), FDEP and National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Conference (NELAC) quality assurance studies/activities to maintain laboratory certification(s). Ensures all health and safety requirements are applied and followed to ensure compliance with Federal, State and local requirements. Reports any issues or permit violations directly to Supervisor. Monitors and calibrates laboratory equipment; computes formulas, curves, deviations and calculates test data for monthly reports. Records test results on standardized forms, maintains logs, records, daily, monthly and quarterly reports and writes test reports describing the procedures used. Prepares chemical solutions according to standard formulas. Assists with graph and chart preparation for quarterly quality control and preparation of purchase requisitions. Cleans and sterilizes laboratory equipment. Maintains inventory of supplies and materials needed for the Reclaimed systems. Performs reclaimed water field site inspections for the City’s reclaimed water distribution system (i.e., boxes, connections, etc.) in accordance with FDEP requirements. Informs new and existing City customers of rules and requirements of reclaimed water use. Maintains a strong commitment to City of Cape Canaveral Organizational Values. Performs other related work, as required.

EXPERIENCE
•Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, microbiology or a related field from a State of Florida accredited educational institution; and one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
•Requires a valid Florida Driver’s License and safe driving record. Requires certification as a Reclaimed Water Field Site Inspector within two years of the date of employment.
