Medical Lab Assistant The Woodlands Medical Specialists is looking for a full-time Medical Lab Assistant to provide excellent care to patients visiting this growing practice. The ideal candidate will perform clinical and administrative functions to provide quality care.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Place orders in the LIS system based on insurance, ordering in-house tests, QTEST, LTEST, KITS, and NEO. Indicate stat tests per order. If the computer is not working, write orders on manual requisition forms for the appropriate reference lab and follow downtime procedures.
  • Place a LIS barcode label on each specimen, time stamp order, and disperse specimens to appropriate locations for testing.
  • Order stat tests from all divisions in the LIS. Place a label on each specimen, place a time stamp order, and promptly disperse specimens to the appropriate testing location.
  • Prepare samples according to specimen requirements. Including but not limited to separating and pouring off Serum, Plasma, Urine, Stool, Sputum, Fluids, etc.
  • Package specimens in the correct container with a requisition. Ensure paperwork is completed for any kit testing.
  • Package specimens in a Kit box with FedEx or UPS packaging. Copy is made of FedEx label, or FedEx tracking number is documented on requisition.
  • Package study kits in the correct manner following kit instructions.
  • Package specimens in miscellaneous kits brought in by patients that need to be sent out. Follow kit packaging instructions and prepare for shipping.
  • Obtain the doctor’s signature for Kits and paperwork.
  • Enter send-out orders into Quest and Labcorp based on insurance criteria.
  • Prepare samples according to Labcorp and Quest specimen requirements. Including but not limited to separating and pouring off Serum, Plasma, Urine, Stool, Sputum, Fluids, etc.
  • Package specimens in the correct container with a requisition.
  • Print manifests for Labcorp and Quest. Write a manual manifest if needed.
  • Assist with answering phones, answering questions, locating specimens, filing, faxing, and picking up specimens as needed.
  • Assist staff and other departments with any questions about specimen requirements, lab results, or send-out tests.
  • Sort, deliver, or scan results as needed. Assist with faxing results if required.
  • Order or notify the Manager on supplies needed including supplies from Labcorp and Quest.
Qualifications:
  • High School graduate or GED. Minimum 6 months lab experience preferred.
  • Excellent customer service skills (required)
  • Ability to handle a fast-paced environment with interruptions
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Compensation and Benefits:
  • For this position, you will be paid $16/hour
  • A schedule of Monday – Friday, 7:15 am to 3:45 pm
  • Contract to hire position
