Actively supports the Blood Draw Clinic and functions as a team player. Contributes to team initiives and continuously strives to improve the effectiveness of the unit. Is involved in unit-based decision making as a team approach to solving problems within their scope and influence. Effectively communices with pients and families when answering routine questions. Responds to issues reled to pient/family sisfaction. Assists with transferring pients to and from clinical chair and wheelchairs utilizing approprie body mechanics and assistive devices. Performs a variety of trement procedures which include: collecting specimens such as various blood tests, sputum, urine, and feces in an approprie manner; performs controls on blood glucose testing machines and performs ancillary glucose testing. Adhere to blood borne phogen standard precautions and all phlebotomy safety policies when performing phlebotomy. Actively follows Medical Center policy to correctly identify the pient before any specimen is drawn by checking and verifying two pient identifiers and correctly labeling all specimens drawn the site of collection. Actively sorts and packages specimens for transportion to the laborory and deliver in the most expedient manner and in the proper transport container, including centrifugion and packaging of pient specimens. Maintains clean and organized pient care areas which include: cleaning the clinical chairs, keep uncluttered pient bays, keep employee personal items to a minimum, not displaying symbols or pictures th may be offensive to others, and do not support the Medical Center’s policy. Demonstres flexibility, initiive and willingness to support pient care needs throughout the Medical Center and the Blood Draw clinic by rotion of assignment, workspace, and/or irregular hours if needed. Monitor levels and stock expendable medical supplies and equipment as needed in the Blood Draw clinic.

MLT candides must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. § 7403(f). Certificion. Candides must currently possess one of the approprie certificions as an MLT granted by the following organizions: American Society of Clinical Phology (ASCP) ASCP, Board of Certificion, or ASCP, Board of Registry American Medical Technologists. American Associion of Bioanalysts. Exception. Non-certified applicants who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements for certificion may receive a temporary appointment up to the full performance level not to exceed two years as a gradue MLT under the authority of 38 U.S.C. § 7405(c)(2) without the option to extend. For grade levels above full performance level, the candide must be certified in accordance with paragraph 4.c.(1) above. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfhering Provision as described in the VA Qualificion Standard for this occupion (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupion and meet the criteria).
