The Respiratory technician supports the Respiratory Therapist (RT) by handling routine tasks, patient education, and basic maintenance of respiratory equipment, ensuring timely and effective service delivery. TRAINING & EXPERIENCE
This person must have above-average communication and prioritizing skills. Prior experience in a home care setting required. Registered, Registry eligible or equivalent training and experience Respiratory Therapist.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES & SKILLS
Requires above-average organizational skills. Proficient verbal skills are essential as communicating with clients, families, physicians, nurses, other team members, and the public is frequent. A high degree of skill in human relations is necessary, with the ability to deal constructively on a one-to-one basis with clients, families, physicians, nurses, other hospital personnel, and the public. Clerical skills are required to complete activities associated with daily operations. The Respiratory Technician must develop a thorough knowledge of all home medical equipment, with an emphasis on Respiratory equipment. In addition, knowledge of Medicare regulations and other insurance guidelines and regulations is necessary. Tact, good judgment, verbal ability, and a positive attitude are very important attributes when dealing with clients, families, physicians, nurses, and all referral sources. Responsibilities and Duties
TECHNICAL/ADM INISTRATIVE/CLINICAL
Demonstrates competence in the skills, (processes, procedures, and equipment) necessary to carry out assigned duties as identified below. Demonstrated competence in recognizing and responding to patients’ physical, mental, emotional, and developmental needs should be evaluated i n relation to the patient populations served as appropriate for each responsibility. Performs duties associated with dispensing Home Medical Equipment primary respiratory equipment for MedCare Infusion Services, Inc. Coordinates delivery of and instructs clients on the use of home medical equipment, primarily respiratory Equipment. Evaluate the client’s medical requirements and place appropriate equipment to meet the client’s needs at home. Discusses Medicare and Insurance requirements and coverage with client’s families, physicians, and other parties concerned. Obtains verbal orders from physicians and verities insurance coverage and prior authorizations for equipment and supplies. Obtains and completes initial paperwork, enters client insurance, medical, and demographic information, and charges into the computer system. Implements and changes in the course of treatment prescribed by the client’s physician. Problem-solve/troubleshoot with clients and caregivers who are experiencing problems. Initiates, schedules, and completes follow-up phone calls, assessments, and home visits for CPAP machines, and other respiratory equipment as necessary. Assesses client’s tolerance, compliance, and satisfaction regarding equipment in use as necessary. Documents findings. Acts as a l liaison between Medcare Infusion Services, Inc., caregivers, Physicians, and Home Care Nursing Providers. Completes follow-up reports when required. Ensure compliance with the organization’s Code of Conduct and all applicable laws, including HIPAA regulations for the protection of sensitive information.
