Structured training will be provided which will include classroom education time as well as supervised clinical experience.
Training will allow employee to:
Through a STAR-designated self-study education program learn and practice the International 10-20 system of measurement. Understand basic knowledge of polysomnography. Learn and adhere to AASM guidelines. Identify sleep stages and sleep disordered breathing. Gain general knowledge of polysomnographic procedures and equipment. Accurately perform quality baseline sleep studies and PAP titrations on adult and pediatric patients by collecting, analyzing, and integrating pertinent patient history information in order to aid physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders. Properly prepare the patient according to age. Accurately document, post, and charge for procedures to ensure quality standards set by the department and hospital. Receive and give report clearly to communicate patient care information to provide optimal care. Employee agrees to actively participate in all requirements of experiential learning, practice outstanding customer service and accept responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. Contributes to the overall performance improvement program within the department and Advent Health. Observes the Advent Health Corporate Compliance Plan as well as all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state, and federal agencies and accrediting bodies. Attends monthly staff meetings. Shows up ready to learn and open to coaching and positive suggestions for improvement. Performs additional duties as requested. The value you’ll bring to the team: In addition to classroom learning, Tech Assistant will be taught the technical and analytical functions of the job by: observing demonstration of seasoned Tech, followed by performance of techniques under supervision, followed by independent performance of functions with supervised review. Tech Assistant quality assurance will be evaluated monthly and feedback will be provided. Tech Assistant should be fully independent within 30-60 days of their start date. Tech Assistant will be eligible to qualify to take the RPSGT exam upon completion of required 6-month training. It is expected that the Tech Assistant will obtain the RPSGT credential within 6 months of training completion. After obtaining the RPSGT credential the tech assistant will be able to move to a Polysomnography Technician. Patient Care Responsibilities Learns and demonstrates procedures according to AASM guidelines and department policy. Learns and demonstrates preparation of patient for testing using the International 10-20 system of measurement and hookup. Exhibits knowledge of and maintains patient safety throughout testing. Learns and demonstrates ability to perform quality sleep recordings by collecting, analyzing, and integrating pertinent patient history information, properly preparing the patient according to age, conducting the examination, and preparing the recording for the physician interpretation. Learns and demonstrates the ability to implement appropriate interventions, including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic intervention such as continuous and bi-level positive airway pressure, oxygen administration, etc. Learns and demonstrates the ability to provides adequate accommodations for patient comfort. Learns and demonstrates the ability to informs the technical supervisor and/or the physician of changes in the patient’s condition or abnormalities on the recording, when necessary. Maintains supplies and equipment for patient care and maintains an orderly and efficient system for storage and retrieval of patient information. Learns and demonstrates the ability to provide patient education according to established guidelines. Always interacts with patients and family members in a professional, courteous and compassionate manner following the AdventHealth Service Standards.
