Job Description

Laboratory Services Support DB Environmental Laboratories 8894 Belvedere Road, West Palm Beach, FL 33411 DB Environmental, Inc. (DBE) is accepting resumes for a full-time entry level Laboratory Scientist to support a contracted position with South Florida Water Management District (District), located at 8894 Belvedere Road, West Palm Beach, Florida. Position Summary This is an entry level Laboratory Scientist position responsible for laboratory washing and decontamination of field and lab equipment and assisting in sample receiving and log-in activities in an environmental laboratory certified under the National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (NELAP). A general description of the position is provided below. Laboratory Washing and Decontamination of Field and Lab Equipment (75%) Assures that all work is performed according to the current SOP. Carefully adheres to all quality control requirements and properly maintains all logs. Prepares 15 handwashed 20L Deionized (DI) Water Carboys and complete documentation in log daily. Washes bottles, test tubes, 2L bottles, caps, spigots and lids using a Miele Professional Washer. Completes all wash documentation in appropriate logbooks immediately upon starting a cycle. Provides a weekly DI Report every Monday by end of day. Carefully attends to all work areas, making sure that they are always clean, organized, properly labeled and well maintained. 2. Sample Receiving and Log-In Activities (25%) Assures that all samples delivered to the laboratory are handled in accordance with current log-in SOP. Typically performs all essential log-in duties (manual entry/sample pH/field upload) upon receipt of samples. Must communicate professionally and effectively with all external/internal customers regarding the details of sample management, including cancellations, delivery and storage issues. Carefully adheres to all quality control requirements. Prior to final submission of all log-in documentation, a thorough review for completion and accuracy must be performed. Performs daily Lab DI system checks, receives all deliverables to lab in accordance with current Chemical Hygiene Plan and maintains all supplies needed for log-in capacities. Works with Water Quality Monitoring staff to ensure proper quality standards. Scans and files each completed chain of custody to ensure that validation has the correct documentation to audit the work orders. Responsible for the receipt of all courier packages (FedEx, UPS, USPS, etc.) and notification of deliveries to staff. Employment Guidelines Typically has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or a closely related field; and at least one year of qualifying environmental laboratory experience preferred. Proficient in Microsoft Office Products (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.) Physical Requirements/Working Environment The position requires lifting (up to 40 pounds), prolonged standing, repetitive bending and reaching, and periodic exposure to refrigerated conditions to retrieve samples. Primary activities are performed in a laboratory where employees routinely use numerous chemical compounds, reagents, gases, acids and bases.
