Job Summary:

The Quality Control Lab Technician is responsible for testing and verifying the quality of asphalt and aggregates produced at the plant. This role ensures materials meet project specifications, state DOT standards, and customer requirements by performing lab and field tests, documenting results, and reporting deviations to supervisors.

Key Responsibilities:

Collect asphalt and aggregate samples from the plant or job site. Perform standardized lab tests such as gradation, asphalt content, specific gravity, and temperature checks. Conduct field compaction tests and monitor density using a nuclear gauge (if certified). Record and report test results accurately and in a timely manner. Calibrate and maintain lab testing equipment to ensure accuracy. Assist with mix design verifications and adjustments under the supervision of the QC Manager. Communicate with plant operators and production staff about quality concerns or adjustments needed. Maintain proper documentation for DOT compliance and project records. Ensure lab cleanliness and compliance with safety and environmental guidelines. Travel to job sites as needed for on-site testing and sampling.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED required; associate’s degree in construction technology or science-related field is a plus. Experience in materials testing or lab work preferred; training may be provided. Familiarity with GDOT, AASHTO, or ASTM testing procedures is a plus. Basic math, reading, and writing skills. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in outdoor and indoor environments. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Valid driver’s license and clean driving record. GA DOT or other DOT certifications (such as QCT Level 1 or 2) preferred but not required to start.
