About the Job The Accessioning Technologist II performs critical sample receipt and data entry functions in FMI’s CLIAcertified clinical laboratory. Specifically, the Accessioning Technologist receives all incoming samples and ensures that necessary information has been received to move forward with processing. This role is involved in both independent and collaborative work that includes the use of account or patient demographic data entry. This is a regulated position and additional information may be available from FMI Quality Assurance regarding regulatory guidelines. Key Responsibilities
Specimen Acceptance:
- Receive and record delivery of patient samples.
- Unpack and verify contents and condition of received samples.
- Sign off on all received specimens; ensure logs match specimens received.
- Address any issues in the instance there are missing paperwork, discrepancies between the specimen and paperwork or if any additional paperwork is needed.
Specimen Accessioning:
- Perform data entry into the FMI Customer Relationship Management (CRM) System including labeling specific computer-generated identification numbers to each sample.
- Upload any relevant documentation and intake forms in the CRM system after specimen receipt to maintain an audit history that will support specimen data entry or patient demographic data updates processes.
- Route samples into the appropriate workflow and ensure downstream staff is alerted to sample availability.
- Maintain required documentation, including proper specimen handling, labeling, and preparation of forms.
- Maintain specimen identification and integrity throughout the Accessioning process.
- Utilize internal data governance processes and compliance guidelines to ensure quality, accuracy, and timeliness of the data entry process for the account and patient demographic data.
- Timely address any account and patient demographic tasks or inquiries from Client Services or any other stakeholders to ensure the best customer experience from specimen receipt and specimen accessioning.
- Identify and inform supervisor of any issues that need to be escalated.
- Assist with accessioning schedule changes if requested by a supervisor, including occasional weekend or off-hours work availability.
- Work in a lab environment using chemicals and regents.
- Ensure regulatory compliance by following local, business unit, and corporate safety policies.
- Collaborate with other departments and colleagues for problem solving.
- Execute work in adherence to Good Documentation Practice (GDP) requirements and applicable regulations including but not limited to Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), College of American Pathologists (CAP), Massachusetts state, and New York state.
- Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Basic Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent (General Education Degree) with at least 2-4 years of work experience in the logistics, science, technology field, clinical setting, or another regulated industry
- OR Associates Degree, particularly a science degree in biological or life sciences with at least 1+ years of logistics, science, technology field, clinical setting, or another regulated industry
- OR Bachelor’s Degree, particularly a Bachelor of Science degree in biological or life sciences Preferred Qualifications
- Associates or Bachelor’s Degree, particularly a science degree in biological or life sciences
- 1+ years of experience working in an Accessioning department in CLIA laboratory
- 3+ years of professional experience with accessioning and/or anatomic pathology
- Prior use of laboratory information management systems
- Knowledge of medical terminology, specifically anatomic pathology specimen descriptions.
- Excellent computer/data entry skills
- Demonstrated attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Demonstrated experience handling multiple tasks at once
- Ability to work independently as well as collaborate with peers in a fast-paced and crossfunctional results-oriented team environment
- Demonstrated experience working within tight timelines for successful execution of project and program goals
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work well under pressure while maintaining a professional demeanor
- Ability to prioritize and thoroughly follow up on assigned tasks
- Ability to adapt to changing procedures, policies and work environment
- Understanding of HIPAA and importance of privacy of patient data
