The research assistant will perform a variety of complex technical duties involved in conducting physical, chemical, biological and other research laboratory tests, experiments and determinations to obtain data for research purposes; compile, analyze, document and draw tentative conclusions from experimental results.
Job Description:
Job Duties Outlined Perform routine laboratory techniques and support laboratory operations (general laboratory duties, ordering, tracking, inventory, laboratory safety, regulatory and compliance). Confer with principal investigator to review work assignments and develop plans for research experiments; make minor modifications to existing laboratory procedures and techniques to meet the needs of the particular equipment as required. Maintenance of adequate lab supplies, reagents, and chemicals for daily research procedures. Perform collaborative studies with other research laboratories at KUMC. Maintain detailed laboratory records, and present results during laboratory meetings or at one-on-one meetings with the PI. Conduct isolation of DNA and RNA from cells, media, serum, and tissues. Perform, PCR, Western blot, ELISA, primary cell, general tissue culture. Assist with antibody labeling for immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, fluorescence microscopy and basic image analysis. Review laboratory methods manual, scientific journals, abstracts, and other literature for information applicable to research experiments. Assist with the data collection, database development, statistical planning, and analysis of data. Required Qualifications Education:
Bachelor’s degree in biological science.
Work Experience:
One year of previous lab experience (can be gained through relevant coursework and studies).

Master’s degree in biological science.
Work Experience:
Prior laboratory experience with cell culture. Experience performing sterile cell culture techniques. Experience in performing cellular assays. Skills Ability to plan, organize, and work as part of an interactive team.

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
