The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry serves the State of Mississippi and the nation by providing undergraduate and graduate students educational excellence in chemical sciences, conducting research that contributes to new knowledge, and catalyzing economic development.   • 4 Min Mid Max $38,771 $48,464 $58,156 Role Summary This position coordinates the activities of the department’s chemical stockroom, facilitating the procurement, inventory management, and distribution of departmental laboratory supplies and equipment.

The incumbent ensures compliance with safety regulations, coordinating maintenance activities, and fosters effective communication among faculty, staff, students, and various university departments. This role plays a crucial part in supporting teaching and research laboratories within the department while promoting a safe and conducive environment. Examples of Work Performed
Coordinates the procurement, receipt, and distribution of chemical supplies, laboratory materials, and scientific equipment for the department.
Ensures compliance with federal and state guidelines and regulations.
Works closely with Environmental Health and Safety to ensure adherence to federal and state regulations governing chemical handling and laboratory safety.
Arranges proper disposal of chemical waste and hazardous materials in accordance with regulatory standards.
Manages the submission of purchase requisitions for purchases of lab equipment, chemicals, and supplies that are over $5,000, and/or sole sourced; tracks the progress of purchase orders.
Coordinates the delivery, installation, payment, and maintenance of large purchase orders and laboratory equipment orders.
Engages in vendor negotiation to explore cost-effective alternatives for lab supplies and equipment.
Receives incoming supplies, verify quantities against invoices, and maintain accurate inventory records.
Operates a pallet jack and moves gas cylinders and liquid nitrogen tanks, when needed.
Collaborates with faculty, staff, and students to address inquiries and facilitate orders, deliveries, and returns.
Works closely with supervisor to report expenditures of work orders and purchases for monthly account reconciliation.
Develops and communicates safety protocols for chemistry laboratories, conducting periodic inspections to ensure compliance.
Facilitates communication with faculty and lab managers regarding the preparation of chemicals and teaching materials and supplies for laboratories.
Works closely with supervisor to maintain inventory of laboratory equipment, technology and other property in the department while assisting in audits and notifies supervisor of any discrepancies.
Coordinates infrastructure repairs and upgrades within the department, tracking project progress as necessary.
Tracks, coordinates & facilitates repairs, and renovations associated with large repair/upgrade projects.
Performs similar or related duties as assigned or required.
Essential Functions These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department. 1. Prepares routine media, cultures, formulas, or specimens according to established protocols and procedures under direct supervision.
2. Performs basic data collection to support laboratory research.
3. Prepares, cleans, and maintains equipment, supplies and facility spaces according to established protocols and standards.
4. May track supply and equipment inventory levels and place replenishment orders.
