  • Current license in the state of practice (ifapplicable). Required
  • ASCP, AMT or AAB certification as a MedicalLaboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist. Any incumbentscertified by ASCP on or after January 1, 2004, must successfullycomplete the requirements of the ASCP’s Certification MaintenanceProgram. Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Must have computerskills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval ofpatient information. Must be proficient with Windows-styleapplications and keyboard.
  • Effective verbal and writtencommunication skills and the ability to present information clearlyand professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout thepatient care process.
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrates good judgement in performing duties and conflictresolution

  • Performs,develops and interprets routine and/or specialized laboratorytesting independently without error, within established timeframes.
  • Performs, analyzes and records quality control andinstrument maintenance/troubleshooting making judgments concerningresults, and takes appropriate action necessary to maintainaccuracy and precision. Escalates appropriately when results areout of control and ensures adequate documentation of correctiveaction.
  • Adheres to regulatory compliance guidelines and maintainsan awareness of accreditation standards for laboratories byreviewing the most current checklist/standards. Follows safetyguidelines, OIG compliance requirements and follows protocol forproficiency testing of samples.
  • Participates in performanceimprovement opportunities by assisting in the collection andanalysis of data and supports business development and costreduction initiatives by managing supply and reagent inventory.
  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including butnot limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to thepatient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to beperformed, requesting permissions and communication style.
