JOB SUMMARY

The Medical Laboratory Technician at North Mississippi Health Services is responsible for coordinating the workflow of phlebotomists in the Specimen Processing area, ensuring accurate and efficient transportation of lab supplies and specimens, and following regulatory guidelines for specimen handling. This role involves effective communication with NMHS staff, patients, and family members, providing excellent customer service, and addressing service recovery when needed. The Technician plays a vital role in reporting accurate laboratory test results and maintaining quality control standards.

JOB FUNCTIONS
Supervision:

Coordinates work-flow of phlebotomists in Specimen Processing area.

Distribution and Transportation:

Assures accurate and efficient transportation of lab-related supplies, equipment and specimens.
Follows all laws and regulations in the processing and transportation of laboratory specimens.

Specimen Handling & Processing:

Follows regulatory guidelines in handling/processing of laboratory specimens.
Follows proper policy for accurate patient identification and labeling of all specimens.

Communication:

Effectively communicate with all NMHS staff, patients, their family members and customers.

Customer Service:

Uses AIDET as applicable.
Attends CARES training.
When necessary, assures proper service recovery is done for patients and/or caregivers.
Answers telephone in an polite and efficient manner.

Employee Relations:

Works as part of a team with all Pathology and NMHS employees.

Reporting/Recordkeeping:

Assures department testing, applicable to their area, is reported in an accurate and timely manner.
Assists with meeting goals of department Performance Improvement initiatives.
Assures appropriate documentation of all required instrument monthly maintenance and quality control.

Education:

Participates in continuing education programs to maintain and expand skills.
Stays abreast of regulatory changes.

Complies with appropriate Local/State/Federal policies/procedures/guideline/regulations/laws/statues.
